It was a strange group of creatures.
The Reapers found this group of creatures more than 50 kilometers away. As Lin thought, this group of creatures was quite large.
These creatures were purple in color. Under the sun, they were like purple clouds that covered the sky. They moved majestically on the sea, and the sound of their flight could be heard clearly within a radius of more than 10 kilometers.
Very few creatures had this strange color. Generally speaking, it was more conspicuous and not good for hunting, but it probably didn't matter to these creatures that could sweep through everything.
But strangely, they didn't have a division of labor. At least for now, Lin only saw one form of them.
In order to confirm more details, Lin had the Reapers fly closer to the group of creatures. They stopped about a kilometer away and carefully observed them.
These creatures were about 30 centimeters long. They were larger than the largest terrestrial arthropods Lin had seen after the current oxygen shortage. They looked like crickets. Lin had a name for them in her mind: 'locusts.'
If the group of creatures was called 'drifting plague,' then perhaps it would be better to call them 'plague locusts.'
They flew on the sea with a pair of long and narrow wings. Their mouths had curved blade-like jaws. They didn't have solid armor and looked relatively soft. In fact, crickets and other creatures were relatively soft.
They flew in the air more than 50 to 100 meters above the sea. Except for their overwhelming number, Lin didn't think there was anything special about them.
Could these creatures be called 'drifting plague'? However, Lin might have made a mistake. This was probably another group of arthropods flying above the sea. It wasn't a creature with terrifying destructive power that scared away all the creatures on the island.
But they were indeed heading towards the island where Lin was. And with such a large number of creatures … Lin estimated that there might be about a million of them. They would need a huge amount of food to survive.
But the sea could also provide them with a lot of food. They didn't have to plunder the island, although they didn't look like creatures that could live in the sea.
In short, they must be followed and observed.
Lin also made preparations on the island. If this group of 'plagues' approached the island, they would land on the beach. Lin would set up cannons on the beach to deal with these creatures.
If they were really 'drifting plague.'
If there was only one type of creature, Lin reckoned that the cannons would be enough to take care of them all. But Lin would never underestimate the enemy that much. Therefore, apart from the cannons, she also ordered the Bombers and Bechymos to prepare for battle.
The reason for starting a war with them was rather simple. If they destroyed everything, Lin would destroy them.
Currently, the Reapers were tracking and observing them. This group of 'drifting plagues' had a flying speed of about 30 kilometers. It would take about 3600 seconds for them to fly. Obviously, they weren't flying at full speed. Occasionally, they would fly slower, which gave Lin time to prepare.
A large number of cannons were placed on the white beach. The sand and stones on the beach could be integrated into their ammunition. The pioneers collected a lot of nutrients in the sea to provide enough energy for these forts.
Now is the season for plankton. The Pioneers didn't need to swallow the hot springs at the bottom of the sea to get enough nutrients.
At the same time, the brainworm expressed that it wanted to try commanding a battle. It seemed that because it had not commanded for a long time, it had a strange feeling in its brain.
There was a region in the brainworm's brain that was specially used for commanding troops. Indeed, if it hadn't been used for too long, problems might arise. That was why Lin also thought that it should be given command.
Lin planned to let the brainworm command the forts. It should be easy for the Bechymos to give orders. Lin added some special structures to the forts so that they would respond to the brainworm's words.
After setting up the forts, the next thing to do was to wait for the group of 'plagues' to arrive.
Although they should arrive very quickly, they kept slowing down. As the Reapers followed and observed them, Lin became more and more suspicious of whether they were 'drifting plagues'. It was at this moment that Lin's Reapers discovered a small island in the sea below. This island was one of the places they were about to pass.
The small island was only a few dozen meters in diameter. There was nothing but sand on it. However, there was an 'echo egg' on it that kept making 'creaking' sounds.
When the 'drifting plagues' passed by the island, their enormous group that seemed to blot out the sky and cover the earth suddenly split into two, as though they had encountered a wall of air. It was as though they were cut apart by the island. They split into two groups and circled around the island. Then, when they flew past the island, the two groups merged back together.
This was truly a wondrous phenomenon.
Next, they encountered a few more islands with eggs. Just like before, the drifting plagues would fly around the islands and wouldn't even approach the sky above the islands.
Sure enough, the Sound Lizards in the forest were indeed using 'creaking' sounds to prevent the drifting plagues from approaching the islands. However, their sounds were too soft and were very different from the common sounds of eggs. Lin Huang reckoned that it wouldn't have any effect on driving them away.
However, if Lin brought back a few echo eggs, she might be able to prevent them from approaching the islands. But now, she obviously didn't have enough time. Moreover, she didn't know how many would be needed to cover the entire island. So, she could only face them head-on.
But before that, Lin thought that she might have to give it a try … to see how strong they really were.
Lin had the Reaper suddenly rush toward the target. The Reaper instantly accelerated to its maximum speed and soon arrived in front of the huge group of creatures.
When the 'drifting plagues' saw the Reaper, they suddenly accelerated and flapped their wings to charge at the Reaper. At the same time, the Reaper accelerated to meet the attack head-on and charged into the swarm of locusts.
Lin felt that the difference in combat strength between the two sides was huge.
The Reaper's hardened wings reflected a dazzling light under the sunlight. In just a second, the Reaper had cut dozens of locusts in half. Their shredded bodies drifted down along with blood and organs.
The Explosive Bug attached to the Reaper's wings suddenly exploded. The Reaper rapidly reaped the lives of the locusts. The limbs and remains of the locusts fell into the sea like rain.
Although the locusts attacked in a frenzy, they were like raindrops hitting a rock, smashing themselves into pieces.
Were the legendary plagues so weak? Lin thought that if there weren't so many of them, a single Reaper would be able to 'harvest' them all. She was floating in the sky.
