Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"Use Tackle again,"

"Osha,"

The water type hobbled forward and rammed into the tree in front of it as if he was sending someone to the ground.

Though, this just ended with him moving back.

'At least he follows my orders,' Hilbert thought, sending him again, 'I'm going to use that buff,'

Another slam. The tree didn't react.

"Osha...wott," After all those Tackles, the water type grew fatigued and lazy.

So, Hilbert tried to place his hand on Oshawott's head.

As if he had some six sense, the water type threw his head out of the range of Hilbert's hand.

'Whenever I do that, he does some type of Mike Tyson shit with that weaving,' He thought, frowning, 'I assume he does not want anyone to touch him or I scared him too much,'

He stared at the resting Oshawott, taking a quick nap.

'Time for the buff,' Hilbert tried to use it, 'System, Buff,'

'Wait, Oshawott does look demotivated,' Hilbert thought, eyeing his pokémon, 'maybe I should give him something to work with,'

"Oshawott,"

He turned to look at Hilbert, though he was not terrified, but he was on the brink of it.

"If you train, you can beat a strong pokémon within this town, and you'll feel good," He tried to persuade him.

"Oshawott..." The pokémon sighed, not interested.

"Uhh, I can give you a name if you do this," This got Oshawott's attention. Hilbert sighed in relief.

"You want a name? Then I'll help you earn it," He said, 'System, use the Buff on Oshawott,'

[Command successful]

A moment later, the water type felt a burst of energy spring into his body.

For some reason, he wanted to train.

'I don't see any changes, except his motivation,' Hilbert frowned, 'but I'm sure the results will pay off,'

"Oshawott, continue tackling that tree until you can't anymore,"

With a culmination of energy, the water type flung himself against the tree, trying to damage it.

'Does the buff stay with him until he tires or do I have to disable it?' Hilbert thought, watching Oshawott bash against the tree as if he were a battering ram trying to crack open a massive door.

'His dodging is on point, we can do that afterwards,'

Hilbert left Oshawott for a few seconds, collecting some stones and rocks.

When he came back, the water type went from barreling into a hard tree to sitting on the ground, exhausted.

[Buff has been removed due to limit]

A message popped up as well.

'So that's how it works,' Hilbert thought, dropping the stones into a pile, and walking to Oshawott, 'it's understandable that he is exhausted,'

Once again, he slowly reached out to even touch Oshawott, but the water type inched his body a bit, rejecting the touch.

'I give up,' Hilbert thought as Oshawott sat up, looking at him for an order, "At least you're not frightened of me anymore,"

The water type nodded, though he shivered when a wind blew a leaf against his head. Oshawott looked around in panic.

"I guess we can start this other training," Hilbert picked up a rock in his right hand and squeezed it, "All you need to do is dodge,"

At first, Oshawott trembled when he heard this, but the offer from Hilbert kept him from quitting.

"Oshawott!"

Hilbert leaned back and with a whip, his arm swatted the air as if trying to kill a fly.

Alarmed, the water type shifted to the left, and the rock passed.

The rocks kept coming.

So did the magnificent dodges.

"I think I abused you enough," Hilbert chuckled, dropping a rock back onto the now smaller pile, "we can take a break,"

"Osh..." Now, Oshawott fell forward, instantly asleep.

'This is a success,' Hilbert thought, sitting against the tree, 'the buff is useful, but I'm not sure if that Riolu is trained,'

He looked at the water type, his body rising and lowering every time he breathed in. Hilbert thought about his parents.

'Hmm, I really did expect my parents would get me a pokémon, as they were pokémon trainers,' He placed a hand on the grassy ground, 'wait, maybe they knew that I would ask someday, so they prepared? Or was it by chance? Plot armor?'

Perhaps Hilbert did have plot armour. Come to think of it, he reincarnated with a system. That's probably a sign of the armour.

'Heh, oh well,' He pulled out a twig of grass and stared at it, 'that's not my concern, my concern now is Daniel and his Riolu,'

Although, Hilbert began to think further.

'What am I going to do in this world?'

There were some options.

The obvious one was to become a trainer and explore the region and perhaps even the other ones. The road to becoming a champion is also open, but after that, what else? Would he be satisfied as a champion? Or maybe become a breeder? A researcher? A coordinator? Those would be cool.

'My mother grows berries, perhaps...' Hilbert had an idea, 'I'm still too young to get my pokémon license, but if I do decide to go down that busy road, at least I have something else to do,'

As his thoughts rumbled, it found itself stuck in the gutter.

'Relationships? I don't reject it,' He thought, going into a trance, 'but I have never even been on a date with a girl before,'

He shook his head, 'Screw that, I'm not at the age yet to think about that!'

Hilbert thought about more stuff, sitting against the tree quietly, listening to the noises around him.

Oshawott woke up after his nap and they trained some more.

Of course, even with the buff, there was not much progress. Hilbert even helped train the water type by trying to pet him, which Oshawott narrowly dodged each attempt with his life.

By now, it was late afternoon, and Hilbert, with the small pokéball in the system's inventory, strolled back home.

When he entered the house, Hilbert had the pokéball in his hand.

He saw his father sitting on the couch, watching the television.

His mother cooked in the kitchen.

"I'm back," He said, gaining the attention of his father.

"Good," His father responded, looking at the pokéball, "how was your first day with your starter?"

"It went okay," Hilbert answered, changing the subject, "Dad, I need to know how you were able to get those pokémon,"

"I'll let you in on a secret," He responded, covering the side of his mouth closest to the kitchen, "I could predict the future, and I knew that you would ask, so that's how I was able to get those pokémon in time,"

"Even your mother was surprised," His father paused, "don't tell her though, she hates it when she is surprised,"

Hilbert nodded, "Thank you, Dad,"

Inside, he knew he could smell that bull from a mile away.

'I guess he prepared in advance,' Hilbert walked into the kitchen, 'I am grateful for that,'

After greeting his mum, Hilbert and his family had dinner together, sitting at the table in the kitchen.

On his plate, most notably, was a piece of cooked steak, which had a texture that could make your mouth water.

'If I had to guess,' Hilbert broke a piece off and stabbed it with his fork, 'Either a Milktank or another animal if they do exist in this world,'

He munched, keeping a straight face, 'I've had this meal many times before, yet I still get a bit disturbed,'

Hilbert watched his parents talking.

'Maybe I should tell them my goals?' He thought, eating another piece of steak, 'I'll wait till the right time,'

That time rolled by.

"Mom, Dad," Hilbert spoke, getting the attention of both his parents, "I want to...become a pokémon trainer,"

"I'm proud of you, Hilbert honey," His mother said with a smile, "as long as you're happy with that choice, I'm happy,"

"That's right," His father said, wiping his mouth with a handkerchief, "but are you sure? You're not doing it because we are forcing you to?"

"Nope," Hilbert shook his head, "I chose this myself,"

'That was only the first half, but I'm not so sure about the other half, I'll have to give it some thought,' He thought, stabbing a piece of steak to his fork.

"Then I'm glad too,"

"Maybe I can challenge the league when I'm ready," Both his parents gave him a look when he said this.

"Ah, that brings back memories," His father said, sipping some water, "right? Sasha?"

"It sure does," His mother replied, eating another piece off her plate.

'Let me continue,' Hilbert thought, "Did you fight the champion?"

"Ah, yes, we did," His father replied.

"but he was strong, too strong for the two of us..." His mother finished.

"Yeah, he..."

"...was..."

At the same time, Emile and Sasha paused, sipping water with slight frowns on their faces.

'Wonder what happened?' Hilbert thought, looking at his plate, 'Better change the subject,'

With that, he was reminded of this friend.

"Oh, Dad," Hilbert continued, "is there any food for Oshawott? Because I think he may be hungry,"

"That's right, thank you for reminding me," He pointed at him, "I left some pokéfood for him from the lab in the kitchen, I know he loves to eat that brand,"

"Thank you, Dad," As soon as Hilbert finished his food, he got off his chair and headed for the kitchen.

"I left a bowl there," His mother spoke, getting up, "let me help you, Hilbert,"

'That was some interesting backstory,' Hilbert thought as he entered the kitchen, 'but after this rest, I can train some more,'

So with this thought, he was on a mission to feed his hungry ace.
