Chapter 80 - CHAPTER 80: Secrets of the Inner Hall

Her words surprised him. Lian Hua had always been disciplined and loyal, unwilling to question authority. But tonight, there was a fire in her eyes that mirrored his own doubts.

"Where do we start?" Zhang Xin asked.

"The Inner Hall," Lian Hua replied. "If there are secrets, that's where they'll be hidden."

A Forbidden Quest

The Inner Hall was the heart of the Zi Xuan Sect, accessible only to the Sect Leader and the elders. Even senior disciples rarely ventured there without explicit permission. Sneaking in was risky, but Zhang Xin and Lian Hua knew they couldn't ignore the gnawing questions.

They moved silently through the shadows, their steps light and deliberate. The sect was eerily quiet, the moon casting long, silver beams across the stone pathways.

Reaching the entrance to the Inner Hall, Zhang Xin placed a hand on the ornate door. Ancient carvings of dragons and celestial warriors adorned the wood, their eyes seeming to watch him.

"This feels wrong," Zhang Xin whispered.

"So does keeping the truth from us," Lian Hua replied, her voice steady. "If the sect hides something that endangers us, we need to know."

Zhang Xin nodded and pushed the door open.

The Hidden Chamber

The Inner Hall was dimly lit, its walls lined with shelves of ancient scrolls and artifacts. The air smelled of aged parchment and incense, and the silence was almost suffocating.

As they ventured deeper, a faint glow caught their attention. At the end of the hall was a door slightly ajar, pale light spilling through the crack.

Lian Hua exchanged a look with Zhang Xin, then pushed the door open. Inside, a vast chamber awaited, its walls covered in intricate runes that pulsed with energy. At the center of the room stood a pedestal, atop which rested a dark crystal, swirling with shadows.

"What is that?" Zhang Xin murmured, stepping closer.

"It's… demonic," Lian Hua said, her voice filled with both awe and fear. "But why would something like this be here?"

Before they could examine it further, a voice rang out, sharp and commanding.

"You shouldn't be here."

They turned to see Elder Han, one of the most respected elders in the sect, standing in the doorway. His expression was grim, and his aura crackled with restrained power.

"Elder Han," Zhang Xin began, "we—"

"Enough," Elder Han interrupted. "Do you have any idea what you've done? This chamber is forbidden for a reason."

"Then explain," Lian Hua said boldly, stepping forward. "Why is there a demonic artifact in the heart of the Zi Xuan Sect? Why didn't we know about this?"

Elder Han's expression hardened. "Some truths are not meant for disciples to know. This crystal is both a curse and a shield. It contains demonic energy sealed here centuries ago to protect the world from its corruption. If its seal breaks, chaos will follow."

"Why wasn't the crystal destroyed?" Zhang Xin asked.

"It cannot be destroyed," Elder Han replied. "The seal requires constant reinforcement. That is the true duty of the Zi Xuan Sect—to maintain the balance between light and darkness. But revealing this would cause fear and mistrust, even among our own."

A Warning and a Choice

Zhang Xin felt his chest tighten. "Xian Wu… he knew about this. He said the sect hides secrets. What if he plans to release the crystal's power?"

Elder Han's expression darkened. "That is a possibility we cannot ignore. Xian Wu was once a disciple of this sect. He betrayed us and sought the crystal for himself. If he's returned, it's to finish what he started."

"Then why keep this from us?" Lian Hua demanded. "We're risking our lives for the sect. Don't we deserve to know what we're fighting for?"

Elder Han hesitated, his stern demeanor faltering. "Perhaps you're right. But knowledge is dangerous. If word of the crystal spreads, it could draw even more enemies to our gates."

He stepped aside, his gaze softening. "Return to your quarters. I'll speak with the Sect Leader about this. For now, trust in your training and your comrades. The Zi Xuan Sect's strength lies in its unity."

Reluctantly, Zhang Xin and Lian Hua left the chamber, their minds heavy with the revelations.

Shadows Within

As they walked back to their quarters, Zhang Xin broke the silence. "What do you think?"

"I think Elder Han didn't tell us everything," Lian Hua said. "But I also think he's right about one thing—we need to stay united. If Xian Wu is coming for that crystal, we'll need the sect at its strongest."

Zhang Xin nodded, though a seed of doubt remained. The Zi Xuan Sect was supposed to be a beacon of light, but now it seemed shadowed by secrets and lies.

As they reached their quarters, a cold wind swept through the sect, carrying with it the faintest whisper of laughter—Xian Wu's laughter.

The war had begun, and Zhang Xin knew their greatest battle would not be against the demons outside the gates, but the darkness lurking within their own walls.

The next day, the Zi Xuan Sect was abuzz with activity. Disciples sharpened their blades, fortified defenses, and doubled their patrols. The attack at the Jing Fu Empire had left everyone on edge. However, Zhang Xin and Lian Hua carried a deeper burden—the knowledge of the demonic crystal hidden in the Inner Hall.

As they trained with their teammates in the courtyard, Mei Lan noticed Zhang Xin's distracted expression. She placed a hand on his shoulder. "What's on your mind, Zhang Xin? You haven't been yourself since we returned."

Before he could answer, Xiaobo grinned. "Don't tell me you're still thinking about Xian Wu. That traitor isn't worth losing sleep over."

Zhang Xin forced a smile, but his silence didn't go unnoticed. Lian Hua shot him a warning glance, a silent reminder to keep the crystal a secret for now.

"We're just tired from the battle," Lian Hua said smoothly. "A good night's rest and we'll be back to normal."

Xiaobo laughed, clearly unconvinced. "Speak for yourselves! I feel stronger than ever. Those demons didn't stand a chance against me!"

Mei Lan rolled her eyes. "Your fire techniques nearly roasted half our team. Try aiming next time."

The banter lightened the mood, but Zhang Xin couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.
