Even if Judgment is a law enforcement organisation, the duties of its members are not limited to solving dangerous individuals or situations.
Contrary to popular belief, Judgment also handles the mundane aspects of law enforcement such as keeping the streets clean, helping the senior citizens and kindergartners cross the road and even help find missing objects.
After finishing the stockpiled paperwork at the office, the 177th branch that I am a part of, normally didn't have much work to do. Outside the simple arresting of the occasional troublemakers or the escorting of children, most of the work consists of writing reports.
Thankfully, I already had experience dealing with plenty of desk work.
When All Might was in the hospital after his battle against AFO, his worried sidekick, Nighteye, used his quirk to see far into his future. What he saw was still darkness which lead to him assuming that his idol would die.
The two of them would then have a clash of opinions and the argument eventually ended in them splitting ways.
All Might is good at using his brute strength to solve most problems, but even the number 1 hero couldn't punch away the paperwork that had to be filled in for his impromptu heroism.
Because he needed to keep his true identity a secret, he doesn't have his own team of desk workers to deal with the formalities. Nighteye was more than capable to do everything on his own but this lead to a dilemma when he quit.
Due to my still lingering feelings of guilt at the time, I volunteered to do it for him for him. Adamantly and stubbornly expressing my desire to do so, coupled with the every increasing mountain of papers, along with me already knowing his 'secret' identity, they caved in to my wishes in the end.
After a brief learning period, the problem was solved thanks to my army of heads. Using my mouth to type on a keyboard or write with a pen on paper took so some getting used to, but my mouth is more than dextrous enough to handle a stick or wand thanks to my hobby in painting.
Although, now that I'm studying in Academy City, I had to retire as his secretary. Due to the distance, the energy upkeep for the heads would be astronomical. They wouldn't last an hour with how much work they have to do.
'Now that I think about it... All Might never did found a replacement for me either, did he?' The image of a Skele-Might struggling with the reports floats in my mind. I shook my head to dispel the thoughts. 'I wish him luck.'
Me and Uiharu were both sent to the same branch considering that we are in the same class, let alone the same school. This makes it easier to sortie whenever the need arises during a crisis.
And the reason we were sent to the 177th branch specifically is because Uiharu sent a request to be assigned there, with me being a plus one bonus. The request was fulfilled rather quickly due to the branch's severe need for manpower since an entire area is too much to handle for two people alone.
What caught my interest was that the paperwork at the office comprised mostly of complaints, victims and witness accounts of a particular unresolved case. The unknown criminal also strikes at other areas but since the other Judgment branches know that we are already working on the case, they sent their reports to us to be organized and analyzed.
The criminal would just be a common street snatcher if not for the quirk that grants him a form of invisibility.
The robberies in themselves were intriguing as well. For some reason only girls were being robbed, and only middle schoolers at that. In every single case though, the victims were not able to see the culprit at all, even when it happened in the middle of the street during daytime. Not even the security cameras were of any help; they'd see the victim walking down the street, and then suddenly, their backpack, purse or whatever else they were holding would be ripped from their grasp and make it's way down the street, only to be lost in the crowd of.
Getting permission and accessing the quirk data bank of Academy city took an annoying amount of time. It did at least yield us a list of a few dozen potential suspects to monitor and interview which was infuriating as some people are being deliberately hard to get along with.
Not only that, but interrogating the suspects was tiresome work as well. Some did not answer their phone, and a few even refused to give their alibi without a proper meeting. Besides, it was growing harder and harder to even find suspects as the list dwindled to nothing.
Normally, the case should have been handed to Anti-skill at this point but they didn't take it seriously. Even our inquiries to use higher security and tracking systems were so far, ignored.
'We can only continue our investigations by ourselves in the meantime as the higher-ups weren't giving any answers either.' I thought, letting out another sigh as I finish my patrol without any signs of the criminal despite using my emphatic ability.
Opening the door to the office to file my report for the day, the first thing I noticed was the much cleaner office. It took some time for the piled-up work to be cleared out but now that it's all over, the office seemed much more spacious than it was just a few days ago.
Further inside, I see my senior, Konori-senpai, carrying and petting the kitten who has gotten used to the office and has become comfortable, along with Kuroko who is currently disinfecting the scratches on her face. Since only the two of them are here, Uiharu is probably still outside and finishing up her patrol, most likely accompanied by Saten.
'The kitten is still young so I suppose that it can't be help if it was quite energetic and constantly moved and jumped from place to place.' I thought. 'I guess Kuroko got unlucky when she opened the door and got met with a face full of claws...'
I walk over to Kuroko and promptly detach my head from my neck. Before either of them asked any questions, black smoke immediately gushed out from the stump of my neck and engulfed her face.
Without even a moment to register their suprise, the smoke receded to reveal the now healed face of Kuroko.
"...A warning would have been appreciated, desu no." Kuroko irritably said as I put my head back. "An odd quirk... Although I feel as if I've seen it somewhere before..." She muttered to herself, though I still heard it.
"You didn't know?" I asked curiously. "I assumed that you would've read my files by now..." I look over at Konori-senpai.
"After my work at judgment, I was also busy helping nebi here get settled down at my place." She said while cooing at the purring kitten on her hands. "I'll take at look at them later."
Nebi is the name she decided for the kitten. Since none of our dorms allowed pets, she took on the responsibility to care for the animal since it would be too cruel to just leave it at the office all the time.
Fortunately, the cat seems to have also taken a liking to her.
"Other than increasing the frequency of my patrols, there has been some... Nuisances in school, recently." Kuroko says with a sigh.
"Tokiwadai, right? Sounds rough." I said as I sat down Infront of a my laptop to write my report of the day. "Can't imagine having to deal with haughty pettiness and back talking from high-nosed brats."
"Did you forget that you're around the same aged as those 'high-nosed brats'?" Konori said with a smirk as I roll my eyes at her remark.
"Although not all of them are bad apples, most of them are just as you've said, unfortunately." Kuroko said as she glanced at the time. "I thank you for healing me but I must be off. The dorm supervisor has her eye on me as of late and I'd rather not earn her ire. Good night." And with that, she took her bag and teleported away.
Shortly after, Uiharu has finished her patrol and arrived at the office to do her own report. Small talk that mostly considered of mundane topics filled the space an air of relaxation. A few moments later, I completed my work and decided to head for the night.
Halfway through the door however, I suddenly recalled something.
"Ah, right... Konori-senpai, I have a shift at the hospital tomorrow so I might be late."
"Hm? Shift?... Oh, healer duties was it? Sure." She said as she waved me goodbye.

In a dim room filled with various tools and equipment, a pair of individuals can be seen operating on a young man illuminated by an overhead light.
The first one who is currently taking charge is an elderly man with a balding head, his hair now only made up the sides and back. He's slightly fat with a face bearing resemblance to that of a frog.
And by his side is me, a middle school boy with red hair hung loosely. He has an average frame with a plain black choker on his neck, and an androgynous face with red eyes.
Our patient for the day is a man who got caught up in a robbery gone wrong. In addition to the bullets in his abdomen, he also has a third-degree burn to most of his upper torso.
The villains were already brought to justice when Anti-skill came in on the scene.
Academy city doesn't have 'Heroes' but rather, it has 'Specialized individuals' within the ranks of Anti-skill. The title of hero isn't that well received in the upper hierarchy of this place. As most of its ranks are compromised of those with either weak quirks or that of the quirkless.
Same with the man who is currently operating. Despite the lack of a quirk, he was skilled enough in the craft of healing that he was given the epithet of 'Heaven Canceller'.
With enough skill and experience to cure almost any disease or injury, almost as if he defies the rules of a god.
Even with the ever changing physiology of the people of this world thanks to the existence of quirks, he can make use of his expertise on practically any body type.
This monstrous genius is someone that once personally taught Recovery Girl. I first started my role as his assistant a few months prior to my enrollment but no matter how many times I see it, I can't help but keep getting shocked and awed by this man's medical skill.
"...That should do it." He said as pulls back his hands. "It's your turn now."
I nod and took off my head, leaning in slightly at the patient as the black smoke gently descended from me. The grafted skin and stitched holes began rapidly healing.
Most of my role (other than to learn from him) was to accelerate the healing of the patients.
The healing spell woven into my smoke is one that makes use of the body's natural healing by the use of one's internal energy.
Scratches and bruises can be done as-is, but the more serious injuries like broken bones need to be aligned first before I heal it. If not, then you have a misaligned limb that constantly throbs in pain. Another example is how a certain Crazy Diamond would turn someone's face into a picasso.
And rather than using the energy reserves of the patients themselves like the quirk of Chiyo, mine uses the same spiritual energy that was used in the creation of my heads and various other abilities, that which I have in abundance.
Since I also wanted to develop more in the art of healing, I need a competent and trustworthy teacher. Heaven Cancelled, real name Hevun Kyanserā, was recommended as he was the one that best fit the bill as well as being the former teacher of Chiyo.
"Patient has stabilized." I said as my smoke receded.
The rest of lights in the room turned on as we left. The doors of the emergency operating room open to reveal the worried faces of the patient's family. Hevun-sensei immediately calmed them down and assured them that the operation was a success.
The formalities and such after that went by fast. By the time I came to, it was only me taking a break as Sensei was just checking the papers on his other patients.
"...Did you settled in nicely at school, Shuzenji-kun? Have you finally made any friends?" He said making small talk.
"Yes and yes." I replied casually. "Got a decent place, joined Judgment and found myself an interesting bunch."
I then continued to tell him of events that happened to me so far. As someone as kind as the doctor, he certainly earned my respect. It was inevitable that I warmed up to him as I did to Chiyo. I've even secretly considered them as close as actual grandparents that I've never had.
We pass the time checking on the other people of the hospital, regardless of whether doctor or patient. When it was already late, Hevun-sensei sent me on my way just as he always had.
