Chapter 114 - Cavalry Mock War

Helena and Geraint agreed that for the Cavalry round, they could select up to 500 cavalrymen for each side so they chose 500 of their best cavalrymen to compete.

The chosen cavalrymen urged their horses towards the designated formation area one by one and after a few minutes, both the Terravallean and Resonance City cavalry were ready.

This time, the designated formation areas were a bit farther than usual because a cavalry needs momentum to be effective in combat.

Blunt weapons of their choice were handed over by the infantry to each cavalryman and once everyone had their own weapons, the temporary captains used their wits to decide which formation would be effective.

The Terravallean elite cavalry were in a rhombus formation while Resonance City's cavalry was using the most basic line formation.

Upon seeing the opponent's formation, the Terravalleans were a bit giddy. In their eyes, using the most basic formation means that their opponents weren't that experienced in wars yet.

Although a line formation looks domineering, it is fragile. It would break apart once the middle part of the formation was broken through.

In addition to this, a rhombus formation specializes in maneuverability so they could freely choose to attack whichever part of the line formation they want.

Seeing the developments in the field, Grand Marshal Geraint chuckled.

"Hahahaha! Novices! This battle won't even be close…If it was any other kingdom's cavalry, they might stand a chance but unfortunately for them, our cavalry is famous throughout the lands!"

In Geraint's eyes, there was a very large gap in terms of both strength and experience when it came to cavalry elites.

He watched in anticipation as the two sides slowly gained momentum while charging at each other.

On the other hand, Helena looked at the confident Geraint and the confident Terravallean cavalry captain.

"Heh, you better pray that somehow, our cavalry wouldn't be able to master the thing called aura formation from my father's booklet or else…hehehehe"

Helena muttered to herself.

She admits that her cavalry is indeed a bit inferior in terms of formation execution and experience compared to the Terravallean elite cavalry.

However, she doesn't believe that they are physically weaker. In addition to this, she hoped that her cavalry could finally master using the thing called aura formation today.

They've been working on it for more than 6 months now but unfortunately, they still couldn't use it.

Still, there was progress every day and currently, her cavalry was very close to mastering the "Aura Formation".

Although she didn't have much expectations, she still hoped and watched the mock war with anticipation.

The Terravallean elite cavalry quickly reached their maximum speed while the Resonance City cavalry seemed to be deliberately slowing down their pace.

The Terravallean captain furrowed his brows after seeing the weird movements of Resonance City's elite cavalry.

"Heh, In cavalry warfare, there are no cheap tricks. The ones who have the stronger charge will break apart the opponent's charge."

The Terravallean captain thought to himself.

Meanwhile, the Resonance City elite cavalry's captain was having a hard time trying to execute the thing called "Aura Formation"

"Now!"

After hearing the signal from their captain, Resonance City's elite cavalry suddenly split up into two groups.

The two groups assumed the triangular wedge formation which was usually used by infantry and this move left both Geraint and the Terravallean cavalry confused.

Still, the Terravallean cavalry captain was an experienced veteran of many battles. He was able to quickly gather his wits and ordered his men to charge at the left group.

"Don't be confused! Focus on the left group! Chaaarge!"

The Terravallean cavalry followed their captain's orders and immediately focused on the left group.

"Tch! We're a bit late! Converge!"

Resonance City's cavalry captain didn't expect that the Terravallean cavalry would react this fast and because of that, he missed the perfect timing.

Still, they tried to cover up the lost time by urging their horses to run as fast as they could.

The distance between the Terravalleans and Resonance City's elite cavalry slowly decreased.

Unfortunately for Helena's cavalry, they weren't able to converge on time as the left group clashed alone with 500 Terravallean cavalrymen.

Due to having fewer cavalrymen and the messed up charge timing, the left group was decimated down to 50 men before being able to converge with the right group.

By the time the two cavalries passed by each other, there were 450 Terravallean cavalry left while Resonance City's cavalry was down to 210 men.

"Hahahahahaha! That's what happens when you try some weird tactics in a cavalry battle!" Geraint laughed as loud as he could.

After seeing the overwhelming victory achieved by his men on the first clash, he was sure that this battle wouldn't even be close.

"Tch!"

As for Helena, she knew that the progress of learning the aura formation couldn't be forced. If they lose here, so be it.

"K…Kuhhh…"

Resonance City's cavalry captain gnashed his teeth in frustration. They've been trying this for more than six months now but he's still struggling with the timing.

Still, he didn't give up. Although they had fewer men now, they still used the same formation for the second clash.

Unfortunately, in the second clash, their convergence timing was a bit too early which made their formation seem like one clumsy triangular wedge formation

As a result, they were now down to 50 men while there were still 410 Terravallean cavalrymen.

"WAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Do you see our might now General Helena?! But that's ok! Do not give up! Maybe one day your cavalry will be like mine! WAHAHAHAHAA!"

Spittle flew everywhere as Grand Marshal Geraint walked closer to Helena. He then tapped her shoulder repeatedly while pretending to "console" her.

Helena gnashed her teeth and clenched her fists in anger. She wanted to punch the face of this annoying Grand Marshal but she stopped herself from doing so.

Her cavalry was indeed inferior right now so there was nothing she could do.
