Chapter 14 - New Villagers

"C..Captain!"

"Hmmph! I see you weakshits aren't that weak anymore! not bad! good job defending the village!"

Helena gave a compliment to the trainees.

"Yes, Captain!"

After talking to the trainees for a bit, Helena went and checked Blanc's condition.

"Hey Blanc, are you okay? Were you hurt anywhere?"

"No, I'm fine. Good thing you were back in time or else it might be a little hard for me to defeat that bear without paying a price."

Hearing the conversation of the two, the trainees were shocked. Is this their heartless captain Helena?

Why was she so sweet towards the village chief? Is there something going on between them?

Questions like these swarmed the trainees' minds but were quickly tossed to the back of their heads upon seeing more and more new faces.

The new villagers carefully got down from the carriages.

Seeing this, Blanc immediately walked towards the new villagers and gave them a smile.

"Pardon my ghastly appearance as we have recently fought a battle with some wild wolves. I am Blanc Rougenfort, the village chief."

"Welcome to our humble village everyone! Come follow me, let me give a quick tour to everyone."

Upon hearing that a battle against wolves was just finished, the new settlers slightly began to regret their decision. Most of them started to worry about their safety.

However, since they're already here anyway, they let Blanc show them around and followed him.

Blanc then proceeded to walk around the village.

"First of all, here is our farm, we currently have a lot of crops growing with a lot of food surplus for everyone. "

"After you guys finish properly settling in the village, you will be assigned to various tasks and we will finally be able to expand the farms and grow more crops."

"In addition to the crops, here are the chickens and rabbits that we are currently breeding for consumption. "

"I believe that you have travelled with some farm animals such as pigs, cattle, goats and sheep. We will be adding those to our farm animals that we will breed."

"Also, here are the fish ponds that were just recently finished. Although there are no fishes right now, we have already installed traps along the river."

"Tomorrow, we plan to harvest the traps and finally add life to our ponds."

"Lastly, we occasionally manage to hunt wolves from the nearby forest which is also a meat source for us. "

"As you can see we recently managed to slay 18 wolves so we will be having quite a lot of meat reserves in the following weeks."

Upon seeing the farm, the new villagers were very impressed.

They were still skeptical about the promises made by the recruitment team but upon seeing the farm full of crops, animals, and a soon-to-function fish pond, their worries about not having anything to eat were gone in smoke.

The worries of these new settlers were not unfounded especially since they passed through a lot of areas before managing to come to this place.

There was just no going back from their decision, they don't even know how to come back on their own, so the assurance that they will have food has a really huge impact in alleviating some of their worries

The group continued on.

"Here are our warehouses. They are currently 75% full of various things such as food reserves, building materials, tools, etc."

"Just near the warehouses are the hut accommodations. As you can see, the construction team already prepared a lot of unoccupied extra huts for the new villagers that will come."

"They will continue to build more as long as we still have room for more settlers. You may pick a hut for you and your family members later."

"In addition, a few clothes and blankets will be provided for you."

The new settlers were in awe. Everything was already prepared for them, all they need to do is just to settle in and start doing the village tasks assigned to them by the chief.

All of these arrangements made them excited about their new lives ahead.

Blanc was not finished with the tour however and he quickly made a tour around the village kitchen and swiftly introduced the cooking team.

After that, they proceeded towards the training grounds.

The excited mood of the new settlers visibly changed into one of realization.

They saw the wounded warriors in training tending to each other's wounds with Helena.

They were quite heavily wounded by the battle against the wolves.

This scene reminded them that although their living conditions here could be better than the kingdom, there are dangers here as well.

Blanc did not let their realization go to waste though as he took the chance to speak.

"Everyone, carefully take a look at this scene. This is the village's commitment to your safety."

"Although there are only ten warriors as of now, this is due to the initially limited population of the village. We will be able to expand the military in the future since we have more villagers now."

Blanc then continued

"The wounds they have now look horrible. To the other villagers however, these wounds are a reflection of their courage to protect the village."

"As you all can remember, no villager was hurt under their watch."

"In addition, not one of them died as we are always making sure that their safety is always the first priority and the ones who are wounded will be heavily covered by their comrades."

This is also due to the training that we are providing to the warriors, the village always makes sure to prepare the warriors first and only let them fight when they have sufficient strength."

After saying his piece, the mood of the new settlers lightened up.

Indeed, no one except the warriors were hurt, but the point is, even though 20 wolves had attacked, no one died.

This is a testament to the village's commitment to the safety of everyone, even the safety of the warriors.

"Everyone had a long day, you may choose your settlements now, we will be providing some clothes and blankets to you once you have all settled in."

"You may rest for today and enjoy the village, your tasks will be assigned to you tomorrow. That's all, Dismissed!"

The new villagers quickly chose their respective huts, received the promised blankets and clothes, then proceeded to enjoy the rest of the day.

Some of them slept soundly inside their huts while some looked around the village.

The cooking team also prepared a feast for dinner to welcome the new settlers.

All the new villagers were quite happy with their new lives.

As a result, some of them even daydreamed about their wonderful future.
