Chereads / Vampier / Chapter 2 - Welcome Vampires

Chapter 2 - Welcome Vampires

On a red night, two newborn vampires were feeding on each other.

After their intimate moment, the bite marks on their necks quickly fade away.

Silas looks away from her in embarrassment and sees the red flower, or what was once the red flower. It is now devoid of all life and vigor; it is grey and looks crunchy and abnormally dark, darker than dark.

Amelia whispers in Silas's ear, "Someone is watching us."

Silas, shocked, looks past Amelia and discovers pure darkness except for a white mist that loosely resembles a human. Silas looks back at Amelia

"Let's get out of here."

Silas, looking at the very most surrounded by nothing but darkness, attempts to stand up, but his hands sink into the concrete again

"Fuck!"

Silas scrambles, looking for something to support him; he grabs his bed but can only squish the metal bars; he tries a lamp he stole recently but is only able to snap it, "Goddammit."

Amelia was stiff, losing hope at the sight of Silas struggling.

'What to do… what to do….?'

Amelia reaches for Silas's hand and grabs him tightly.

"Calm down, Silas. I have an idea; trust me. Before we woke up, did you hear a woman's voice say a name?"

Silas looks past Amelia again,

"yes, I did, Amelia; the mist is getting closer…"

Amelia looks behind her. "Let's say the name, Silas… I think it's our only chance."

Both of them close their eyes, ready for whatever repercussions saying it might cause, and yell out simultaneously

"Vampier!"

"Vampire!"

A voice resounds in their head

(welcome vampires)

Suddenly, all around them, glowing blood appears out of thin air, forming words in front of Silas; it read

Amelia is on the floor. "Yeah, Silas…" in front of Amelia read.

'I'm a vampire…'

The mist takes the form of a pale human with long hair and clothes as black as the sky and eyes as red as the moon.

"Hahahahahah. Yes, finally, it worked."

Silas bears his fangs; veins swell in his eyes as they turn blood red and radiate danger. It's easily visible even on the darkest nights. Swiftly dashes towards the voice, ready to strike, but before Silas can reach him, he disappears.

"Where did he go!!"

Amelia rushes towards him and clings to his arm. "Silas! Calm down, please… we need to talk. A lot happened tonight…

Silas unfurls his brows. "You're right… so we're vampires. But what even are vampires?"

Amelia concentrated, hoping she wouldn't sense anyone nearbySpecifically, the man they witnessed vanish,

"Silas, I might know a little about vampires, but first, let's sit."

She leads him by his arm toward his bed, where they were bit and turned a couple of hours ago. They sat side by side with interlocked fingers' Amelia looked at him and then looked away shyly; she looked back at him with a somewhat awkward smile, then her eyes started to swell, and she rubbed her nose

"I don't know what to think, Silas… I… we're vampires now... I still don't know how to process this, and I always viewed vampires as something my parents told me about before I went to bed. They used to tuck me in and then say never to stay up late cause then the vampires would get me; those were also the last words they said to me ever. I slept only to wake up without my parents; it's been eight years. I've already told you the story, but this made me remember it."

Sniveling, she laid her head on Silas's chest. " I never thought vampires would be real and… that I would become one." She covered her eyes and hugged. "T-That's the only time I ever heard about vampires till now."

Silas, not knowing what face to make,

"We'll survive, Amelia.. together even as monsters."

'Amelia... You're going to make me cry, and I don't do crying…' he silently added.

. . .

A well-built middle-aged man with tired dark eyes, tight lips, blue eyes, and slicked-back hair. A clean stubble on his cheeks. He wore a half-top hat and a black sack coat. He was entering his workplace, and a woman behind her desk greeted him

"Welcome back, Mr. Hart; how was your day?"

He greeted her with a soft smile as he put his half-top hat on the hat stand to his left, "My day has been good, Claire, and remember to call me Lycan. I've known you for five years now Claire. There is no need to be so formal, especially in our profession" he picks up his arm and removes his glove to reveal his metal hand

"When fighting monsters side by side, I don't think we have time to be so formal, haha."

He smirks, puts the black glove on

"I'll go see Captain now. You be good, Claire."

Claire smiles and nods

"you as well, Lycan."

Lycan makes his way up two flights of stairs till he reaches a door with the words captain etched within the wooden door. Lyken knocks on the door three times in a rhythmic pattern similar to a twinkle-twinkle little star.

The door opens, and Lyken is met with a middle-aged woman. She looks slightly younger than Lycan, and she has hazel eyes, long straight hair that reaches her middle back, tired eyes, bronze skin, and full lips; she looks better than most women Her age. She wore a black skirt that started at her waist and a grey pinstripe blouse; her clothes and face contradicted the pipe in her mouth. "Good timing, Lyken. I just finished signing off on the mission; come in."

"So what's the job? Genevieve"

She sat down in her chair, put her pipe away, and rested her hands on a large black suitcase on her desk, which had a paper on top of it

"Dangerous, that's what it is; our witches detected a blood flower, and somebody picked it quicker than usual. It's your job to find out who, and if you can't, then at least have a clue. The weird thing is that it was in the slums; the only vampire clans down there are the Ashen Fangs, and Blood Gaze, the clan known to hunt blood flowers. It is too far from the slums to reach it quickly, and you must investigate this now; the location of where the blood flower once was is on this paper."

She hands him the paper on top of the suitcase."

Lyken, with interest in his eyes, reads the paper, which had details for the task and a map marking the location he was sent to investigate.1

"So, is it just me?"

Genevieve, with her pipe in hand

"Yup, take the suitcase; it's the gunblade you requested last week. Take care of it, though I pulled some strings to get this for you; it's a real gem; the witches did their thing on this one, and don't worry about ammo, silver bullets, and holy water packed inside."

Lykan picks up the suitcase with a nasty grin on his face

"Hah, today is a good day! I'll get the job done quickly. It shouldn't be too dangerous." Lyken rode a hansom cab, a two-wheeled carriage drawn by a horse, meant for carrying passengers at the cost of two brooks. Lyken fell asleep in the hansom cab and was awoken by an angry man yelling at him, and the man happened to be the cab driver.

"Get up, you lazy son of a bitch!"

Lyken begrudgingly left his seat and exited the hansom cab. "Rude…" he was now on a dirty, smelly, lonely street with small buildings that looked like they'd fall apart any second; the only sound was the wind howling.

'It's nice to come back to my old home. Those were dark days tho…'

Lyken walked towards his destination until the only thing that separated him from the marker on his map was a dark alleyway,

'Dammit, I hate the dark' he turned on the lamp on his waist which illuminated only a meter in front of him.

"Well, better than nothing."

Silas laid his suitcase on the floor and opened it, removing the gunblade. It was black with golden engravings and birch wood. Near the hilt, there was a cylinder and a trigger. "Ohh yeah, baby, it looks amazing." 1

With gunblade in one hand, he advanced into the alleyway, which felt like nothing but pure, unadulterated darkness with whispers and sobbing heard from within. 'someone's in there…'

Lyken loaded his gunblade with six silver bullets. "Click."

. . .

In the dark alleyway, Amelia continued weeping, and Silas as well, until they heard a sound.

"click"

They both instinctively looked at a man by the entrance of Silas' home. Silas bared his fangs.

"Hisssss!"

The man jumped and quickened his pace

Silas, with Amelia in his arms, whispers into her ears

"Hide, I'll deal with him… if he needs to be dealt with."

Amelia nods and tiptoes away from Silas, then turns the corner to where the blood rose was originally found; she moves some of the destroyed boxes into a corner and sits in the middle of them.

Silas sits on his bed with his head down, his white hair covering his attractive face and blood on the collar of his shirt. 'if he sees this shirt, he'll suspect me..' Silas stands up and slowly removes his shirt, revealing his lean, muscular body that is only a vampire or a very disciplined human. Silas throws his shirt into the darkness in the same direction where he threw the dog poop earlier today.

Lycan projects his voice

"Hello, anyone there!?"

Silas looks at the man, he can see him in the dark, but Lycan can't see him

"I live here; who are you?"

"I'm Lycan, a detective with the police. I've gotten complaints about this area. Mind if I take a look around?"

Silas looks in Amelia's direction. 'It would be a bad look if he found Amelia hiding.'

"Yes, I do mind; please leave; there's nothing to see here."

As Silas says, this lycan is close enough to see Silas, who forgot to retract his teeth.

'A vampire… he forgot to retract his teeth; he's probably a newborn and white hair, that's new for a vampire. Well, I'll test him; he might be the one.

Silas senses hostility from Lycan

'I don't want to fight… I don't even know how to, but with this body, I'll be able to win against a human, but… I can't kill him

Lycan confused the vampire in front of him with his teeth bared hasn't attacked him yet

"Not going to attack me? I see your teeth, you know." he aims his gunblade at Silas.

"Sigh, fighting humans isn't my thing…"

Lycan shot at Silas but missed

Silas jumped and hissed at Lycan but didn't attack

"Hey, what the fuck! I don't want I fight, dammit!!!"

Lycan asked with a confused look, "Why don't you attack?"

Silas was bewildered by the question

"Because you're a human, why would I attack a human? Especially a policeman."

Lycan furrowed his brows, removed his gloves, and adjusted his gunblade into blade mode

"I don't believe you vampires pounce on humans at every chance!"

Lycan slashes, aiming for Silas's head

But Silas ducked

'for a human, he's fast, and what's with his hand its metal?'

Silas backs away. "I don't want to fight Lycan. I don't want to kill anyone…" A bullet flies for Silas's head, and Silas dodges.

"Sigh" 'I have no choice…'

Silas lunges at Lycan and throws wild, unpredictable, untrained punches.

But each punch is met with a blade. Lycan smiles

"See, all vampires want is to kill. Show me what you're made of!"

'His defense is too good; he predicts every move I make.

Silas rolls towards a crowbar and whacks Lycan uncontrollably

Lycan lowers his weapon and dodges each strike perfectly with a smirk on his face

"Not bad. I think I'll train him. Let's end this."

Lycan shoots multiple rounds while slashing, throwing Silas off balance and causing him to fall on the floor with a blade to his throat.

"So, you won't kill humans?"

'How did he knock me down so fast? He's just a human?'

"You might make an exception, but I'd much rather kill vampires than humans."

Lycan, with a genuine bright smile, "Perfect want to hunt vampires with me? I'll train you too and teach you all there is to know about a vampire."

Silas's eyes widen. "You're weird… but sure on one condition. Amelia, you can come out now."

Lycan confused

"who's Amelia, your girlfriend?"

Silas looks at Lycan with a smile,

"Hah! I wish"

Amelia crawls out of her makeshift fortress and then sees a man on top of Silas with a blade to his throat

"Get off of Silas!"

Lycan glances over at her. Then back at Silas.

"All right, missy."

Lycan helps Silas stand up.

"So, companions, you two?"
