Chapter 16 - 5•16 ; A Distinctive Source?

It has been some time since the assessment begun. Currently, the numeral #40, a child with vampiric features, is undergoing the primal analysis. After a thorough scan, the primal program retraced itself back to the rainbow crystal ball. Subsequently, an ether screen became visible above the grand podium.

(A distinctive source? As expected of Patriarch Moretti's eldest son, the heir to one of the three prominent families in the thirteenth district. He was able to inherit the genetic source of the Boris family,) an aristocrat praised from a levitating seat in the middle row.

(Indeed, an excellent talent. If I remember correctly, the child's name is Rusan, right?) another aristocrat nodded in agreement.

(But it's a pity he didn't develop any inborn traits,) another aristocrat expressed her opinion.

Overhearing their praise, Patriarch Moretti gazed at his son with pride. However, upon hearing the last comment, he clicked his tongue and shot a glare at the woman - his arch-enemy. Unfortunately for him, this was the analysis tower. With the restrictions inputted into his being, he couldn't do anything. Frustrated, he recalled back his son.

Sensing the glare, the woman with elven features returned a sneer of contempt.

At the same time, in the front row, the mayor of the thirteenth district mumbled, (why do we have to wait with these bumpkins? Can't we just use one of our guild privileges and be done with this assessment?)

He discontentedly questioned the old man, his eyes indicating the annoyance he felt at the lowly squabbles among the so-called 'bumpkins' in the Hall.

(Why should we waste a guild privilege on such a trivial matter just because of your impatience? If you are dissatisfied with the arrangement, we always have the option of kicking you out of the guild. Remember your position and don't try to overreach it.fo) Hearing the mayor's discontent, the Unperturbed old man matter-of-factly responded.

Hearing the disregarding response, the mayor begrudgingly swallowed the discontent and lowered his head. He knew that his position in the guild is not that high, but does he have a choice? He could only swallow his self-esteem and obey the guild for its contribution points and backing, just so he could survive in that cruel purgatory of power - material immersion.

(Don't worry, Mayor Steven. You just need to play your part as the host, and we, Cadzel, shall reward your efforts handsomely for the task. Also, Uncle Cavve, you shouldn't disregard your employees like that. Furthermore, there is no harm in telling him that I am the reason for this kind of arrangement.) Listening to their conversation and witnessing the mayor's slumped shoulders, the boy Azul intervened. He wore an expression of composer and solemnity that seemed contrary to his childish age. He reassured the mayor and reprimanded the elderly man for his lack of consideration.

(Young master, I.i.i..i don't know what to say. Thank you for showing consideration for someone as insignificant as me. Despite being a child in his early growth phase, you were able to understand my feelings and show compassion for my plight. I will do my utmost to reciprocate your kind words and play my role as a gracious host.) The mayor, comforted by a child, felt warm tears welling up in his eyes. He shook off his self-deprecation and resolutely responded.

Upon hearing the mayor label him a 'child' once again, the corner of Azul's eye involuntarily twitched.

As for the old man, he nodded and addressed the mayor, (The young master wants to witness the budding talents of his age, so he opted for a regular assessment.)

The mayor nodded in understanding and felt ashamed for doubting the guild.

(As expected of young master Azul, he not only has immense talent and uncommon intelligence but is also so compassionate at such a young age,) an aristocrat who was closer to their seat overhead their conversation and praised in admiration.

(Yes, yes. Exactly, I can't wait to see him grow up and cause waves in the land of Odyssey.)

Meanwhile, gazing at the boy Azul from the corner of his eye, the old man nodded in appreciation and thought, [So this is the 'Him' the family head mentioned. Despite the child's partial awakening, he has a charismatic presence that influences those around him.]

(Numeral #45, please step forward) the Alphis', overseeing the assessment atop the grand podium, called.

As the distorted echo of the Alphis' reverberated in the augmented Hall, a boy rose from one of the levitating seats in the back row. Its none other than the same child that accompanied the humongous man.

(Go, Son, show them the immense disparity between a noble Titan and a realm full of dirty bloods.) The humongous man patted his son's back and mocked aloud, at the same time not forgetting to glare in a particular direction.

Upon hearing his mocking words, everyone in the Hall, both aristocrats and commoners, frowned.

The old man named Cavve furrowed his brows and shifted his gaze towards the back row. A slight surprise evident in his eyes, but that was all. (Hmm. Aren't you a member of House Lowen?) he sighed. (It seems House Lowen still hasn't forgotten their creed of blood prejudice even after a passage of millennia,) he voiced out nonchalantly.

(Is that bastard from House Lowen? What's a brute like him doing in this sacred plac. .?) an aristocrat muttered. He was about to curse the humongous man for the mockery, but before he could...

(Shh! Hey, do you have a wish of drowning in injustice?or what) someone closer to his seat quickly shut him up and whispered in a quivering voice of fear.

After all, who doesn't know the maddening dogs of the noble household Lowen? There is a saying among lower entities, "Even if you have the guts to insult a godly being, perhaps, you might have a chance to wake up and revel in another day of morning sunshine. But if you insult a member of House Lowen, you wouldn't even have a chance to plan for tomorrow before a swarm of maddening dogs bites you to death."

Overhearing their hushed conversation, the void had his mouth twitching in speechlessness. He thought, (What kind of bullshit saying is that? Damn, are they the well-known young master troupes in animation?)

Meanwhile, the humongous man stood up and respectfully bowed to the old man. (Greetings, Grandmaster Cavve. I hope you won't take my insult to heart, since it only meant for the waste and not the prestigious House Cadzel.) While saying that, he overlooked the crowd, especially a particular trio.

The old man Cavve's frown deepened, but he decided to overlook it for now, since bickering with a muddleheaded dog would only waste his time. Instead, he directed his gaze towards the particular direction the humongous man had been occasionally eyeing for some reason. Unfortunately, he didn't find anything but an empty seat, just like any other one among the commoner seats.∆∆∆∆∆
