Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 : First Impressions and Unwanted Recognition

Emily and Alexander stepped into the sleek, glass-walled lobby of the Caesar Group of Companies, the atmosphere around them seemed to shift. Whispers and hushed conversations rippled through the employees, who had been avidly following the scandalous events of the past few days.

Their eyes darted between Emily and Alexander, like spectators at a high-stakes drama unfolding before them. The wine incident was still fresh in their minds, and seeing the two of them together created a buzz of speculation and gossip.

Emily's heart raced, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as the eyes of her colleagues bore into her. She knew that this unexpected alliance with Alexander would only fuel the rumor mill even further.

Alexander, on the other hand, maintained his composure, his authoritative presence radiating an air of indifference to the surrounding chatter. He had long grown accustomed to the prying eyes and wagging tongues of the corporate world.

Together, they made their way through the lobby and towards the elevators, the employees' whispers and speculations trailing behind them like a lingering echo. Emily couldn't shake the feeling of being trapped in a spotlight of scandal, and the weight of her recent actions bore down on her shoulders.

The elevator doors slid shut, and for a brief moment, they were enveloped in silence. Emily stole a cautious glance at Alexander. "Mr. Caesar, people are talking," she admitted, her voice tinged with apprehension.

Alexander regarded her with a detached expression. "Consequences, Emily," he replied cryptically, offering no further explanation.

As the elevator ascended, Emily couldn't help but wonder about the enigmatic man standing beside her. Their previous interactions had been fraught with tension and misunderstandings, and she had never anticipated working alongside him, let alone in such a public manner.

The elevator doors opened to reveal the bustling floor of the Caesar Group's headquarters. Employees huddled in clusters, their gazes shifting between Emily and Alexander.

Alexander led the way through the maze of workstations and conference rooms, Emily following closely behind. She couldn't escape the feeling that all eyes were on them, dissecting every step they took.

As they reached his office, Alexander held the door open for Emily, allowing her to enter first. Inside, the opulent surroundings were a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere outside.

A punch of nostalgia hit Emily so hard that it nearly took her breath away. As she entered in the sleek, modern office, the memories of that fateful night when she had signed the contract and her eerie interaction with Alexander came flooding back with startling clarity.

The memories of their initial encounter still sent a chill down her spine. The way he had torn up her apology letter, the contract he had presented, and the ominous warning he had given her—it was a night she would never forget.

"Are you here?" Alexander's voice snapped in front of her face, jolting Emily back to reality. She blinked rapidly, her thoughts shifting from the past to the present as she focused on the man before her.

"Yes, Mr. Caesar," she replied, her voice steady as she met his piercing gaze. It was a reminder that they had work to do, and she couldn't afford to get lost in her thoughts, no matter how tumultuous they might be.

"You see, my employees, they are curious to know about your presence here," Alexander explained, his tone composed as he addressed Emily.

"Yes, Mr. Caesar, I did," Emily replied, her voice tinged with a hint of nervousness.

"As far as I got to know about you, you were studying dietetics," Alexander continued, his tone measured and inquisitive, as if he was trying to unravel a mystery.

"Yes, that's correct, sir," Emily replied, her voice steady despite the apprehension bubbling within her. She couldn't help but wonder how much he knew about her, and it made her feel vulnerable.

Alexander released a sigh and moved a bit closer to her. Emily's heart skipped a beat as he drew nearer, his presence looming over her.

Alexander's piercing gaze bore into hers as he spoke, "Emily, it seems there are many unanswered questions surrounding your sudden involvement in the company. The wine incident, your unexpected alliance with me – they've raised eyebrows."

"But…. sir, you possess considerable authority. You seem to have the ability to wield it as you wish," she stammered, her voice trembling, and with each word, she took a cautious step backward, mirroring his movement.

He let out a chuckle, his warm breath grazing her exposed neck.

"Power is a double-edged sword, Emily," he replied, his voice low and enigmatic. "It can open doors, but it can also create expectations and scrutiny."

She found herself pressed against the wall, her back to it, as Alexander caught her off guard, leaving no room for escape.

"But I enjoy using my power against you," he admitted, a hint of fascination in his voice.

He inched closer to her neck, his hand slipping behind her to deftly undo the belt of her dress.

Her heart raced faster, and her breath caught in her throat, a mix of anticipation and nervousness consuming her.

"M…. Mr…. Mr. Caesar," she stammered, her quivering words barely audible as his hands slipped under her dress from behind.

"Call me Alexander," he whispered, his touch sending electric sensations coursing through her entire body.

She gulped, unable to comprehend fully, as his hands traced slow circles on the edge of her back.

"Say it," he urged, moving even closer, his voice a low, compelling murmur.

"Alex... Alexander," she exclaimed, unable to resist the sensational touch and hot breath that sent shivers down her spine.

His hand paused its journey across her back, and a soft chuckle escaped from beneath her neck.

He whispered softly, "Good girl."

"In our next venture, you'll take the helm of our organic products chain, and I'm entrusting you to be my personal dietitian during working hours," he affirmed, straightening his posture as he strode toward his office desk.

His abrupt shift in demeanor caught her off guard, leaving her feeling both surprised and awkward. She quickly began retying her belt, unsure of how to react to this unexpected change.

"You may have a seat," Alexander said, gesturing to a chair in front of his desk as he resumed his professional demeanor.

With a hint of hesitation, Emily complied, clearing her throat and attempting to regain her composure as she seated herself in front of Alexander's desk.

Ghosting Emily entirely, Alexander seized the telephone resting on his desk and dialed a number. "Good morning, Mr. Caesar, how may I assist you?" Lisa's voice oozed politeness and professionalism from the other end of the line.

"Good morning, Lisa. I need you in my office," Alexander requested.

"Sure, sir, give me a minute," Lisa replied with efficiency and a hint of curiosity.

As they waited for Lisa to arrive, an awkward silence hung in the air. Emily fidgeted slightly in her seat, her gaze wandering around the office, avoiding eye contact with Alexander. She couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions – from the intensity of their previous interaction to the sudden shift in atmosphere. It was as if she had stepped into an entirely different world.

Finally, Lisa hurried into the room with an eager smile, clearly oblivious to the tension that had filled the space moments ago. She was a vivacious woman with a penchant for humor, and her bubbly personality was a stark contrast to the enigmatic aura that surrounded Alexander.

"Good morning, Mr. Caesar! And who do we have here?" Lisa chirped, her eyes falling on Emily. "A new face in the den of corporate lions, I see!"

Alexander introduced them, albeit with a stern nod, which did little to deter Lisa's enthusiasm. "Emily, this is Lisa, my indomitable secretary."

With an exaggerated wink, Lisa leaned closer to Emily and whispered, "Don't let his stoic exterior fool you, dear. Deep down, he's just a big teddy bear."

Alexander's icy glare silenced Lisa instantly, her cheerful demeanor faltering for a moment before she quickly composed herself. "Uh, I mean, he's a very serious and focused boss, of course."

Alexander wasted no time, launching into a lively explanation of Emily's responsibilities. "So, Lisa, Emily will be assisting me with my dietary needs during office hours and overseeing the organic products chain."

Lisa's bubbly personality contrasted sharply with the enigmatic aura that surrounded Alexander.

As Lisa's eyes fell on Emily, she couldn't help but blurt out, "Oh, you're the one from the wine incident, aren't you?"

Emily felt a wave of anxiety wash over her at the mention of the embarrassing incident. Alexander's piercing gaze hinted at his displeasure, but he managed to maintain his professionalism. He turned to Lisa and said, "Lisa, please take Emily and explain her all her duties."

With a nod, Lisa quickly shifted gears, her cheerful demeanor returning as she addressed Emily. "Of course, Emily! Let's get you acquainted with everything you'll be doing. Don't worry; we'll have you up to speed in no time!"

Emily and Lisa left Alexander's office together, she couldn't shake the feeling of Alexander's piercing gaze following her. It was as if his eyes bore into her back, leaving an undeniable presence that lingered even after she had stepped out of the room.

She couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind. The enigmatic billionaire had a way of keeping his thoughts and intentions hidden, making Emily feel like she was constantly navigating a maze of mysteries.

Lisa noticed Emily's unease and offered a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Emily. Mr. Caesar can be intense, but he's fair. You'll get used to it."

Emily nodded, though she couldn't shake the feeling that her journey in this enigmatic world was just beginning, and there were many more surprises and challenges ahead.
