The crash from below was a slight thud from above. It prompted several providences to spring into action. Sycamore and Cindy exchanged a quick glance before joining the group, following them.
"Hey, where are you going?" a providence called out, halting Cindy and Sycamore in their tracks.
"We heard the noise," Sycamore explained, trying to keep his voice calm and authoritative. "We need to see what's happening."
"You're not permitted to follow," the providence replied, blocking their path with a firm stance. "This is a matter for the church."
Cindy's eyes narrowed slightly. "We're from the police. This might be related to our investigation."
The providence shook his head. "Our priests can handle this. Your presence is unnecessary."
The providence looked conflicted for a moment but remained resolute.
"You need to stay here," he said, and with that, he turned and hurried after his comrades, disappearing into the corridor.
