Chapter 25 - Death looms, waiting for its next victim (24)

As they moved closer, Starfania couldn't help but notice the scars and wounds marring the beast's magnificent slate scale. Drogo species were known as Draconis which were also known as Diverse Serpents. They are a group of dragon species with unique abilities and characteristics. Drogo was almost about the size of a horse but a bit taller. His tail was wrapped around his body, while his wings were tucked in. Though his eyes were closed, the gentle rise and fall of his chest assured them he was just sleeping. Once near the gate, his scales were a commanding shade of dark gray, while his underbelly was adorned with a striking navy blue pattern.

His ears perked up as he heard their approaching footsteps and his eyes slowly fluttered open. As he raised his head higher and turned to look at the people approaching him. Almost like he was observing their every move. Drogo eyes were a piercing light brown, which hinted at his strength. Then he slowly rose and turned his body towards them. Aeron was the first one to enter the stable as he walked closer to his best friend. When Aeron touched his rugged exterior, Drogo's eyes softened with a warm glow. He had a majestic anchor color on his mane and tail, highlighted by a subtle shade of berry. His wounds, rather than diminishing his beauty, stood as a testament to his strength and resilience. Drogo was also adorned in gleaming silver armor that enhanced his appearance.

Aeron, with familiar affection towards the dragon, called him by his name: Drogo. Drogo responded to Aeron with a soft purr and a gentle nudge, radiating warmth and joy from within. In that instant, it was clear that their connection transcended mere friendship; it was a profound and unbreakable bond forged over time. As Violet and Starfania stood in awe of the extraordinary Draconis dragon. When they looked at them they could see the strength of their bond. Curious, Aeron asked Drogo if he remembered Starfania. With a friendly wave, she greeted Drogo, and to her surprise, he approached her with a curious sniff. He gently licked her face, prompting a radiant smile as she affectionately patted his head.

Drogo then excitedly dashed away, his tail wagging with joy, only to return in a playful charge, tackling her and showering her with joyful licks. Aeron exclaimed, " Starfania, Drogo hasn't forgotten you. "

Drogo left out a soft sound as if expressing his excitement about seeing Starfania. She commented on how big he had gotten since she last saw him as a hatchling and how he was still learning. Starfania remembered when Aeron and Drogo would come over to the palace and play around with her. He would glide from the top of the stairs and land on Aeron's head nibbling on him. Which would cause Aeron to try and shoo him away but Drogo was very stubborn. Starfania would burst into laughter when it came to the duo. Violet then eagerly joined in on the fun, as Starfania laughed exclaiming, " Those tickles! "

He playfully tickled both of them, and they couldn't help but burst into fits of uncontrollable laughter, tumbling to the floor yet again. The moment was just simply pure joy, filled with a sense of carefree happiness that was truly unforgettable. After calming down a bit Starfania reached out her hand and gently stroked Drogo's head, her attention shifted to Aeron, her curiosity piqued about something. With a playful smile, she asked, " Are you going to join the dragon game too? "

The memories of their earlier conversation with Daniel about the Dragon Games flashed through Starfania's mind. Daniel had spoken with such honor and excitement, about the thrilling games. If she recalled correctly, anyone with a dragon could compete in the conversation. She couldn't help but wonder if Aeron had shared the same excitement.

He replied uncertainly, " I don't think I'll be competing this year. "

Surprised by his response, Starfania couldn't help but dive deeper.

"Why? " she asked, her voice laced with genuine curiosity. Aeron's answer was brief yet impactful: " Something feels off about this year. "

His words lingered in the air as if the surrounding area were trying to keep a secret from them. Trying to keep them at bay for now, but only time will tell. Starfania simply shook her head from trying to think too deeply about their conversation. As she simply said. "No need to worry too much about it. I'm pretty sure you will handle it, anyway. "

However, Aeron couldn't shake off the feeling he was getting from every time they brought up the Dragon Games. It almost felt like the world would freeze around him, and he was just walking mindlessly. Even Starfania was curious about what he meant by that and replied, " Maybe you're just overthinking again. I promise there is nothing to worry about. "

All you could see was the worry in his eyes as he thought about the games, so Starfania was trying to think of a way to cheer him up. Before she could say anything, Violet jumped in with her thoughts. " Big brother, you have nothing to worry about considering you are one of the best flyers of Vulcanfire. You could use that speed to help people. "

Aeron looked up, his gaze fixed on the vast expanse of the sky. With a mix of hope and determination, he declared, "Well, if that's true, then I guess I'm King of the Sky.
