Since I could remember I've been alone, no father or mother or family for that matter. Last memory I have of my parents is them waving at me while they were leaving the house. Last words that I can remember were "we love you and be safe." Those six words were like a permanent reminder branded into my mind that both my parents were gone and left no clue on when they'll be back.
That was about 4 years ago. Barely remember my grandparents. When I try to remember, everything is blurry. Their faces, exactly where they live, nothing was coherent. I was left with no one, no parents, no family, I didn't even have friends.
House empty, it was lonely, but my parents did leave things behind. Fridge was full of food, had my father's card with I don't know how much money on it. Never checked, but we were well off compared to kids I went to school with.
My mother gave me a card, she said something about it pertaining to a security box. The card had a name on it, which after some small research on my part, was a Hunter Bank. Besides that, only thing on the card was the combination code.
But there was a problem with that, only Hunters can even go inside there. I'm not a Hunter. Failed to get into the hunter academy. For all I know, that's the only way to become a hunter.
Life was boring, I had a regular routine I did daily. Woke up, showered, ate, went to school, came home and watched the news looking, hoping to see my parents' faces appear. Nothing. Just other Hunters spouting nonsense to the media about how impressive they are. How strong they are. Life continued on that repeated cycle daily until it happened. Something, that changed his life for forever.
…
it was just a regular day for Marek, until he came home from school. There it was, something that for some reason gave him a thrill in this dull life.
…
Standing there, with the front door wide open, Marek saw five men dressed in all black with the living room a mess in their surroundings. Chairs broken, tables split in half, sofas overturned and ripped apart. Marek didnt know who they were, or what they wanted. But it seemed like they were searching for something.
Then one of the men turned around and spotted me. "The boy is back, grab him." Hissed one of the men. Not a moment later four men sprung towards me at a speed you wouldn't think was humanly possible.
Then it clicked.
Hunters.
Bamm!
I threw my bag and hit one in the face or so I thought, but I didn't give it much thought. I threw it and turned around and sprinted faster than I thought I could. I've always been weak. Always last in any physical competition.
I had to get away and hide. I didn't know what they wanted or what they were looking for. I didn't want to find out. The best choice was the forest near my house, as it was only a couple houses down from mine. "Hopefully I can make it", I said breathlessly as I ran towards the forest.
After what felt like a year but wasn't, I passed the clearing between the last house and the forest. As Marek passed the beginning trees of the forest, he kept going. There was no thinking, Marek just kept going straight off of pure instincts.
After a few minutes, Marek glanced backwards towards the direction of the houses since he didn't hear anything behind me. No tree branches being broke from getting stepped on, no footsteps behind me. with no sounds, just a deathly silent forest. It made him curious whether he lost them or not. But boy was he wrong.
When he turned around there was two guys about twenty feet behind him leaning on two different trees. "Shit, where are the other two?" Marek said, trying to process what was going on and where the other two went. After thinking for a few seconds, Marek decided to continue running since the other two guys can either being one of two things. They went to get back up, as soon as that thought came to mind, Marek discarded it since he was only a child compared to them. The other thought was they were trying to cut him off.
As soon as that thought came to mind, He turned around to kept running, but what awaited Marek was the missing two guys. Standing there with an amused smile on both their faces. "No, what can I do" Marek thought.
"Hey kid," one of the guys leaning on a tree behind him said.
Facing towards him what awaited Marek was a punch, "got him," was the only thing he heard before he went unconscious.
