Unable to withstand his whining, especially that of an adult, Darica decided to answer him. "You will be taking that next right turn there. And we will be home in a few minutes."
Upon hearing that, his eyes were on the road and surely, he saw the turn that she was talking about. He couldn't help but look at her, wondering how her home was in such a place that was so hidden.
What was going on? He wondered as he returned his gaze to the road once more.
It didn't take long before Duke took that turn, and a gravel road greeted him. Luckily, his car wasn't on the low end, so he wasn't worried about damaging the car because of the road.
"So you live in such a remote place?" Duke asked worriedly, seeing how all he could see were trees.
For his woman to stay in such a place, he felt insecure as his worries soared high.
"Umm, and it's a very good place. You will definitely find it unique. And if you find it interesting, then you can stay, otherwise just go home. Your parents must be missing you!"
Duke turned his head to glare at her like a wronged child and began to complain, "Don't try to chase me away. Even if you live in a drain or tunnel, I am not afraid!"
"Hehe, I can see your love for me is deep!" in a teasing tone, Darica poked the man.
"You will see!" he winked at her, very happy with her answer.
Seeing that the other turn was coming, Darica instructed Duke, afraid that he might miss it and pass by.
Duke followed the instructions again, and this time, he was quite amazed by what he was seeing.
There was a magnificent gate just some distance away from where he was. And there were several vans inside the yard.
Was it a junkyard or some kind of garage? Duke was filled with questions once again.
Seeing Duke approaching the gate, Darica took out her phone and made a call.
Duke watched as Darica talked smilingly to the person on the other side of the phone and felt sour seeing that.
Moments later, Duke found himself automatically sitting straight upon seeing the hulk of a man walking towards the gate.
Despite being separated by the gate, Duke could tell that the man wasn't simple and someone who shouldn't be messed with.
Just what kind of people was his woman associated with?
The gate was opened quickly and Darica urged Duke to drive through, for she had greatly missed being home.
Duke followed his woman's order and drove his car through the gate.
And seeing what he couldn't see before as he was outside the gate, he was amazed.
'This is… she did that?' he couldn't help but look at her with amazement in his eyes. Very proud of what he was seeing.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Darica asked as she unbuckled herself.
"You ….. you live here?" Duke asked, his gaze fixated on her.
Chuckling upon hearing his question, she proudly nodded her head, "Umm, this is my home. Isn't this place unique?" and asked.
Duke couldn't believe what he was seeing.
After seeing the place much closer, he had an idea of what he was seeing. He had seen something like that on social media. So, to see it in person, he was quite baffled by it.
And to think that the place he was seeing was where Darica was staying felt unreal to him.
"Let's go out. I will show you around!" with a proud expression on her face, Darica couldn't wait to show off her village to someone.
She had not even shown the place to her F5 gang and others. Duke became the first person that she showed the village to.
And since he was her boyfriend, she decided to honor him a bit.
Wasn't the honor she gave him great?
Seeing her acting so interested like that, his heart warmed up. He could tell that the place meant a lot to her. And the fact that she was willing to show him something that others probably didn't know, he felt honored.
And he didn't want to miss a chance to brag about it. And since she instructed him to leave the car and check the place out, he didn't dare disobey but obediently exited the car.
Darica not used to being pampered, was already standing out of the car with her hands in the pockets of the baggy jeans she was wearing, waiting for him to join her.
While standing there and waiting for Duke to get to her side, Darica turned her head to look at Uncle Travis, who was walking towards her.
"Babes, who is he?" Duke asked in a whisper as he stood next to Darica.
Darica seeing that Duke had joined her, answered without looking at him, "he is one of my uncles. Uncle Travis, the one that helps me to look after this place."
Upon getting the introduction, Duke was thrilled, for he had learned something that other people didn't know about.
The majority of students knew that Darica was an orphan. And they had never seen any guardian of hers even once at school or on social media.
He also thought that she was alone and was afraid that she wouldn't have anyone to spend the holidays with before. But who would have foreseen that she had uncles and one of them was scary as hell?
While he was pondering about that, Travis, who wasn't expecting Darica to bring that lad home, was feeling nervous as he approached Darica who seemed to be waiting for him.
"Darica!" he called out to her, seeing that she was looking at him.
Darica flashed a smile at him, making her look like a lotus in bloom. So beautiful that he felt very proud just looking at her, for that lotus in bloom was his own woman.
"Uncle! I have missed you!" Darica excitedly responded as she removed her hands from the packets, taking a few steps towards the man.
Travis scoffed at Duke, who was now looking at him with a familiar gaze of jealousy he enjoyed the most before looking at Darica who was trying to act cute with him.
Not letting the chance to mess with the lad who had plucked their cabbage, Travis scooped Darica into his arms the second he reached her.
Darica giggled happily as Travis spun her around like a child, and all of that was in Duke's eyes.
How could he not be a jug full of vinegar seeing all that in person?
