Chapter 12 - Training at home

"That's a splendid choice, Damien. Are you really sure about it though? Once I register that, you won't be able to change schools," Mr. Davis cautioned.

"Yes Mr. Davis I'm quite sure about it," Damien said with a nod.

"I guess it's settled then. I will work on that. You've a bright future ahead of you Damien. Make the most of it.

Take your training seriously.

I wish you the best when you finally go to your new school," Mr. Davis said.

"Thanks Mr. Davis," Damien said and he got out of the office.

On his way out the school, he bumped into a familiar face.

"Oh hello, Damien. How is everything?" Victor said with a calm smile.

"Everything's well, Victor," Damien replied curtly.

Victor nodded and asked again.

"You've already decided on which school you would go to, right?"

"That's right. It's none of your business though," Damien said.

"I was just asking," Victor replied, raising his hands in concession.

"Alright Victor. I gotta go… see you around," Damien said and he walked past Victor.

"See you around too, Damien," Victor replied, turning around to see the leaving back of Damien.

A smile creeped onto his face.

He turned around and continued to walk on to the office block.

Only Victor knew what he was thinking at the moment.

**

Home now, Damien focused all his effort on absorbing the mana stones in the black box plus the new ones he had ordered recently.

When he was not absorbing them, he was on DAUN searching on how to use his powers.

The psychic power was mind related.

Basically, he could now move objects with his mind, hit people with mental attacks and communicate telepathically.

For the Space element, he could now solidify the space in front of him, teleport, create portals to places or to store things, or even lengthen or shorten the distance between anything!

That was quite overpowered.

For his Soul path, Dr. Manfred had been pretty vague about it. It was a power related to runes. That was all Dr. Manfred could tell him about it.

Damien could already feel that strange power.

It was like it was sealed or dormant within him though. There was nothing he could do about it for now.

Perhaps when he became stronger he would figure out how to use it.

Him not being able to access it now wasn't really a problem. Soul powers were most often mysterious and really weird.

Till date, Earth's scientists hadn't been able to catalogue most of the powers related to the Soul path as compared to that of the Spirit and Body paths.

It wasn't their fault.

Apart from it being mysterious, people with Soul paths were very rare.

The most notable soul powers on earth were Necromancy and Soul fire.

Both were powers used by one of the Nine pillars of Earth; a Planetary Realm expert called Raju who was widely referred to as the Death Lord.

His powers allowed him to enslave the souls of dead people to serve in his undead army and also injure the souls of others with his soul flames.

Apart from him, other people had awoken soul powers too which were strange and mysterious.

For Damien's body path, it gave him superhuman strength, speed, stamina… basically superhuman everything when it came to the body.

Unfortunately, he couldn't fly with his body path.

But maybe in the future he could levitate himself with his Psychic power or even float or walk on air with his Space power!

If he wanted to achieve that though, he hard to work hard.

Damien was currently focused on a silver metal ball in front of him. It was the size of a tennis ball and weighed much more than it looked.

There were other smaller metal balls the size of pebbles around him.

Damien had ordered these metal balls online to train his psychic power.

He had found out that one way to train his Psychic power was with these metal balls.

He could currently control two smaller metal balls simultaneously. Any attempt to add more easily broke his focus.

As for the tennis sized ball, currently, he could levitate it three feet into the air.

Additionally, he could also move it away from him for about 5 meters before it lost connection with him and fell down.

That 5 meters' space around Damien was the current limit of how far his mind could carry something and move it at will.

When it passed the five-meter limit, Damien's connection with the thing grew hazy.

He would still be able to control the thing though but the connection would cut off when it exceeded ten meters.

When he closed his eyes, he could sense the surrounding 5 meters' space around him clearly. He could observe and notice every little detail in that 5-meter space around him.

Damien named this ability Mind sense.

His mind sense actually exceeded five meters though.

Damien had marked it with a ruler and had discovered that he could actually see 15 meters.

The catch though was that of those 15 meters, he could only see five meters clearly with closed eyes. The remaining ten meters were vague to him and after those ten meters, he couldn't sense anything at all.

That was why when he controlled the metal balls and it crossed the 5-meter margin, his connection with it grew vague and hazy.

With him as the center, those 15 meters spread out in every direction.

Every day, Damien trained his psychic power and space power by levitating the metal ball and compressing space.

Sometimes, he would levitate the big metal ball in the air, compress the space below it and let the ball drop onto the compressed area.

The tennis sized ball was so heavy that it crumbled the compressed space and fell back to the floor more often than not.

As for the smaller ones, he could balance it on the compressed space indefinitely.

Again, he could teleport the metal ball from one end of his room to another.

He called that ability Blink because it allowed him to move the ball several meters ahead in the blink of an eye.

When he tried it out on himself, he quickly exhausted his mana after four tries but not before learning the limitations of it.

Currently, the longest distance he could blink himself was 20 feet.

This drained half of his mana and he could only do it twice.

When he shrunk the distance to five meters though, he could blink four times.

One additional trick he had learned from DAUN was a sneaky mind attack.

He could compress his mind power into a needle and send it from his mind to pierce another person's mind. This intrusion was invisible to the naked eye and sense making it a dangerous mind attack.

Damien called this attack mind needle.

Damien hadn't been able to train this ability of his much because he didn't have any human subject or living sentient being to carry out that attack.

He could also construct a thin barrier of mental energy in front of his mind to protect it from a similar attack.

Damien named this mind reinforcement.

For the mind needle, he could only actively use it in those five meters he could see clearly.

When it passed the remaining ten meters, he found it difficult to control it and more often than not, it faded away.

Damien had also found out that the power of his body was largely passive.

He could somehow send mana into various body parts to make them stronger than usual. With his current mana capacity, he could use mana to enhance the whole of his body for only thirty seconds before he ran out of mana.

Damien named this ability as body enhancement.

To test his regenerative abilities, Damien had used one of the sharp kitchen knives his mom used to cut a shallow wound in his palm.

When he used mana to boost his regenerative ability, the cut healed and closed up in less than ten minutes!

Not even a scar was left.

Without it though, it took close to half an hour before the wound closed and healed completely.

Damien also increased his previous exercise regimen which was no longer effective on him due to his body.

He currently did 100 squats, 150 pull ups and 150 push-ups plus an hour of stretching.

Due to not having advanced gym equipment at home, he had to make do with that.

Also, because of his paranoia, he didn't dare go for a run outside to test his speed and stamina.

All this would change when he finally got into the awakened academy.

There, he would be able to train with no worries or concerns about his safety.

With that hope, Damien kept on training at home and absorbing mana stones. To his surprise, his mental fortitude and ability to not let himself be distracted by his boring and grueling routine helped him to keep his focus solely on training.

Perhaps, it was an unintended boon of his psychic element.

Whatever it was, Damien welcomed it.

Soon enough, he received a mail from the awakened school he had chosen.

It informed him of his acceptance into the school and when he was to come. Enclosed with the mail package came a nano suit which took the form of a bracelet.

Damien bound it to himself with his fingerprint and DNA.

As simple as it looked, it could take the form of his uniform, his clothes and even light armor if he willed it.

Already, the uniform of the school was loaded into it.

Damien tried it out and examined himself in the mirror.

It was beautiful.

It had the form of a black and burgundy ceremonial army wear with a high neck, alongside a golden trim at the edges.

The pants were black with burgundy linings trimmed gold at the side and finally it came along with plain black knee length boots.

It gave off a regal and imposing aura.

"The school's nanotechnology is truly fantastic," Damien marveled in awe.

Days quickly passed by and soon enough, it was time for Damien to leave.

Only the future knew what awaited Damien.

Nevertheless, he was eager to know what laid ahead of him.
