Chapter 3 - TRAINING

"So, Reese, now that you have recovered enough it's best to train so your body gets used to combat again. I can teach you some new things too." Ronald offered.

"I don't need it, I am a very good fighter as is. If I wasn't caught off guard I wouldn't even be in this situation." Reese objected.

They were in a small room lit with a light blue glow from a singular light panel on the ceiling, the room was completely white, no designs or furniture.

"How about you try attacking me, anywhere at anytime." Ronald challenged.

Reese smiled and stepped forward. In the blink of an eye she spun on her heel and roundhouse kicked Ronald, but the attack missed. Ronald quickly stepped back as soon as she turned. Getting back on both her feet Reese prepared herself to attack again.

She punched towards Ronald but he grabbed it with one arm without any effort. She could feel the strength behind those arms and her smile from earlier was replaced by a look of disbelief. Ronald released her arm and stepped to the side.

"You are skilled, undoubtedly, but without a proper fighting style you stand no chance against others. Your guns will only help you as long as you have bullets, what if you run out of them or the enemy has impenetrable armor? You will stand no chance if you can't find other ways to fight." Ronald explained.

"Not like my hands will work against impenetrable armor." Reese argued.

"Oh yes, they won't, but this will." Ronald said walking to a wall and pressing his hand against it.

A rectangular part of the wall slowly ejected and Ronald carried it and placed it in front of Reese. From the looks of it, it was a sword curved slightly backwards. It's handle was completely black with a black sheathe, a black handguard visible between the handle and sheath.

"A katana? Really?" Reese questioned.

"It's not a normal katana, it's an Energy Powered Blade. It could cut through diamond even when there is energy running through it, with a condition however." Ronald explained

"And that condition is?" Reese inquired.

"The user is greatly skilled, if the wielder is not skilled it will barely cut through the weakest steels." Ronald pointed out. "So, I want you to have it, and to train you to be able to use it to its utmost potential."

"I will still prefer a strong gun over a katana, I can't easily get close to enemies after all." Reese complained.

"I will simply train you, and then let you decide for yourself." Ronald smiled.

"So I just swing it five hundred times, like just swing it in that way five hundred times, nothing else just swing." Reese questioned, dumbfounded at the training method.

"Yes, if it sounds too easy we can make it a thousand." Ronald offered.

"A thousand, I can easily do ten thousand of these." Reese laughed.

Her statement, did not turn out to be true. After just a hundred Reese was very tired and her arms ached. The katana almost slept from her hands twice already. Her first day's swinging training ended at one hundred and thirty two swings, and she was no longer looking forward to her other trainings.

"Reflex training, just dodge these fake bullets and you are all good." Ronald explained as Reese stood in the center of a different room, different than the last one and bright purple in color with a lot of differently colored light panels.

"Sounds good." Reese replied, her confidence returning.

Ronald walked to a corner and pressed a button Reese did not notice before. As soon as he did so a bullet flew right towards Reese's face, it was made of rubber but traveled nearly as fast as an actual bullet, startling Reese and putting her on high alert.

The training lasted 10 minutes, with about 500 bullets shot, and around 80 hitting Reese. The bullets were of rubber but travelling at such high speed they dealt decent damage and pain. Reese was starting to not like these trainings in the slightest.

The next training was accuracy, which Reese performed very well in. She landed a hit on 98 of the 100 moving cardboard cutouts, with 63 of them being a hit on the head or heart.

"You have great accuracy." Ronald complimented her. "You are a bit lacking in other aspects but pin point accuracy."

Reese sighed out of exhaustion.

The next training was strength, in which Reese was supposed to punch a punching bag, which was an easy task. Only when she punched it did she find out that it was somewhat metallic, the fabric around it helped soften the pain from the metal but it was not enough still.

"You expect me to punch THAT?" Reese exclaimed.

"I did, but maybe you will prefer something softer, wood it is then." Ronald answered thoughtfully.

"Still an improvement." Reese sighed.

Ronald left the room for a short while, the one in which he showed her the katana, and returned with a wooden training dummy. It was humanoid with arms and legs, and visible joints.

Reese walked upto it as Ronald stepped back and glanced between it and Ronald for a moment. Ronald gestured her to go ahead and she punched it in the head with a hard blow, and right after that she got hit by what seemed like a punch from the dummy. She fell to the ground but got back up almost instantly and roundhouse kicked the dummy, pushing it back.

The dummy walked back towards, it's walking speed slow. As it reached close to her it threw a punch towards, a fairly slow one, making Reese realized that it might hurt but it's still much slower than her. She took out all her anger on the dummy punching and kicking it all over.

As she fought it, she also realised a strange thing, some parts of the dummy were padded, they were very small and spread all over the dummy, not any big patches, but they were still more comfortable to hit, and so she attempted to target her attacks on those.

After around an hour passed as she continued to attack the dummy, not damaging it any way surprisingly. Ronald told her to stop and led her back to her room.

"That is all for today, your training will get gradually harder." Ronald informed her as he was leaving to bring her food.

"I am ready to beat up any number of dummies!" Reese exclaimed, all fired up again.
