Alex's POV:
I didn't know how to react when he said that. Is this a new trick or what?
"Continue, Mr. Bennett," Penda said, and Father nodded. I stared at Orlene, whose gaze was on Father. Is my mother still alive?
"Twenty-nine years ago, I met this beautiful French woman; she was a struggler and not from a rich home, but she was broken because her visa was going to expire, and she just got a good job to help pay her mother's bills," he explained, and I knew at once that the woman he was referring to was mother.
"So I offered to marry her because I loved her, but that was not the case with her. She loved someone else."
"What are you talking about?" I chimed in angrily.
"Alex, I want to listen to Father," Orlene said while looking at me. I sighed and let the man continue.
