"Camila, where on earth were you last night!" The phone had just connected when Angela Reid's anxious voice rose from the other end.
Camila Walker felt a little apologetic. "I, I got drunk last night, at..."
If she mentioned staying the night with Clayton Howard, would Mother be scared to death?
"Mr. Bewell stayed here till very late before going home last night, saying he came to apologize to you. Didn't you have dinner together? What happened afterward? He said a friend picked you up? Who was it?"
Overwhelmed by her mother's barrage of questions, Camila found herself struggling to respond, only managing to simply say, "Mother, I'll talk to you about this when I get back. As for last night, I did indeed stay at a friend's house because I got drunk, threw up without warning, and then passed out, so I ended up sleeping over there."
Hearing this, Angela Reid was somewhat puzzled. "Passed out? Why did you drink so much wine?"
