Anthony Davis said it with a smile, but his words were indeed true. The Davis family had no children, and the two elders had tried various methods, hoping he would get married and have a child. Eventually, they even lowered their expectations to, at least... have a child, even if not married; the Davis family line simply couldn't end with him.
But Anthony maintained his own way of life, unmarried and chaste, everything about him was perfect, as if he were not of this world.
The elder Davis couple also introduced him to many girls, beautiful, gentle, elegant, kind—every type was presented to him. He was warm to everyone, but he never gave anyone a chance.
Later on, as he rose to higher positions and became busier with work, the Davis elders couldn't reach him anymore, nor could they say anything further.
So, Anthony remained single up to now, and he is relieved, fortunate to have found Scarlett Glenn, the only child of the Davis family.
