"We've got a big customer today, all of you sharpen up."

"What big customer can we expect in this shit-hole town of ours?" the helper chef took a drag at his cigarette, squinting his eyes.

Matilda Wilson hurled her dishcloth at him, stormed over, and pinched his ear, "No smoking! No smoking! Are you looking for death? Smoke again and you're out of here."

"Ouch, Auntie, it hurts!"

"Behave yourself! Smoke again and I'll smack you dead. Get cooking. Here's the menu, they're waiting for the dishes. Do a good job and don't mess up or you'll wish I hadn't."

The helper chef was her good-for-nothing nephew. After wandering around in the city, he returned covered in bruises and debt. She had no choice but to take care of him out of respect for her deceased elder brother.
