Since Joel Russo had given Nanny Richardson a heads up in advance, it wasn't long after he picked up Arabella Vanderbilt that dinner was served.

They adhered to the principle of not speaking at the dinner table, a rule Arabella took to heart that night.

The two of them didn't have big appetites, and when it was just the two of them eating together, they would normally talk.

So why was tonight unusually silent and well-behaved?

During the meal, Joel had looked over at her several times!

And he discovered that nearly every time he did, Arabella's figure would stiffen slightly.

Joel frowned, and it wasn't until after they had finished dinner and went out to see the alpacas—when he saw Arabella wanted to stay as far from him as possible—that he finally spoke in a heavy voice,

"Arabella, what's wrong with you?"

His voice was so cold that it seemed to freeze the air around them.

"Ah? Nothing's wrong, is it?"
