Mira Shire had no idea what Arabella Vanderbilt was thinking, hesitated for a moment, but still couldn't help but speak up:

She still held the check that Zaiden Gray had just given her.

Remembering the way Bruce Fairfax had just looked, she worried that President Vanderbilt might have caused trouble she shouldn't have in order to save her.
"It's fine. Just taking the money might feel a bit unfair to you, but if word gets out, it won't reflect well on your reputation either. Let those two dogs bite each other. Bruce Fairfax got his lifeline cut; he definitely won't let Zaiden Gray go easily."
Mira Shire's mouth gaped open in shock, staring dumbfounded at Arabella Vanderbilt, "His... His was cut off?!"
