"Why are you suddenly interested in her?" Amelia Baldwin asked Evelyn Bailey, her gaze sharp and questioning, "You two, aren't actually familiar, right?"
Caught off-guard, Evelyn chuckled awkwardly and then explained, "I just feel that it's bizarre for a wealthy young lady to be so contemptuous of herself and even implicate her family..."
"That, you needn't worry. Monica has her own understanding," Amelia interrupted curtly, "Miss Bailey, this is the Baldwin Family's affair."
Knowing that she couldn't afford to offend the Baldwin family, Evelyn wisely backed down, "Amelia, I mean no disrespect. I just pity her."
"There's nothing about her to be pitied!"
After all, she was merely the child of a mistress, with no real status in the Baldwin family.
Fortunately, Monica knew her place. At least she was more tactful than her mother. Hence, the Baldwin family simply acted as if Monica didn't exist, avoiding any interference with her.
