"I heard from our house help that Shishi had an accident and is in the hospital. So, I took a taxi... to come and see her." Ella Lacey scratched her head, stammering because of Louis Jefferson's intense stare.
"It's so late at night, it's not safe for you to be out alone." Louis expressed his concern.
However, seeing her safe and sound in front of him, he was visibly relieved and said, "You know, Ella, you spoke more words just now than you have in the past two weeks."
"..." Ella dropped her gaze, her fingers twined in her oversized denim sleeve, looking worryingly at the hospital ward. "How's Shishi doing? And what about Aunt Shen?"
"The doctor said Shishi's life is in danger and is receiving emergency treatment," said Louis in a calm and measured tone. "Her mother fainted upon hearing the news and is in the next ward."
Then, Louis relayed the details of the car accident scene, as told to him by the police, to Ella.
"Sigh," Ella sighed. "All we can do is wait now."
