Marcus Moore quickly clarified, "She and I were classmates at the police academy. We see each other often because we both intern in the same unit, and we both came from overseas so we temporarily live in the same apartment block. As you can see, it's a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment, and our relationship is purely platonic, okay?"
"But you're not young anymore, it'd be normal for you to have a girlfriend. Why explain so much to me?" Ella Lacey only half-heartedly listened and didn't take his words seriously.
After all, Marcus had been a flirt since childhood, often teasing little girls.
"I just don't want you to get the wrong idea."
Counter to his previous playfulness, Marcus suddenly became earnest, his hands resting behind his back, the corners of his lips curving gently upwards, "Ella, do you still like Arthur as much as you did when we were children?"
