Emma Osborne thought she had tricked Old Master Osborne into approving of her and Connor Osborne's marriage, leaving no obstacles in their way as long as Anna Ainsworth and Connor Osborne completed their divorce procedures, allowing their marriage to be next on the schedule.
So, when Lannie Ward knocked on her door the next morning, Emma thought Lannie had come to discuss severing their mother-daughter relationship and welcomed her in with a smile.
Although Lannie's expression was cold, Emma didn't take it to heart, thinking it must be a matter of saving face since she knew Lannie's secret.
"Mum, would you like something to drink? Coffee or milk tea?" Emma greeted her mother, her future mother-in-law, with great enthusiasm.
"I don't want anything to drink," Lannie's voice was even colder than her expression, "I'll just say what I came to say and leave."
Emma was slightly startled but nodded obediently, "Mum, whatever you have to say, I'm listening."
