Anna returned to the Inpatient Department and approached Chris's ward doorway, taking a deep breath and steadying her emotions before she pushed open the door and gently walked in.
She thought Chris would still be sleeping, but to her surprise, upon entering, she found Chris awake, eating dumplings that the nurse Auntie had bought, leaning against the head of his bed.
For most people, by 9 p.m. they would be having a late-night snack, but for Chris, who hadn't had dinner, this was his evening meal.
Seeing Anna enter, Chris sped up and finished the last two dumplings, then childishly stuck out his tongue to lick his lips.
"Finished eating?" Anna went over to wipe his mouth with a tissue and asked.
"Mhm," Chris responded, his gaze instinctively searching behind Anna, not finding the figure he missed, a flash of disappointment immediately appeared in his eyes.
"Sis, you said brother-in-law would come see me tonight," Chris looked at Anna with a doubtful expression.
