Jeremy Thompson didn't get off work until 8 p.m., and when he arrived at his Bay City First Class apartment, to his surprise, he found Xaviar, who normally lived in the Thompson Manor, sitting on the sofa in the living room with a pillow in his arms.
The television was playing a series, some historical drama from an unknown dynasty, not the animations Xaviar liked. Xaviar's eyes were fixated on the view outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, not watching the TV program at all.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Xaviar immediately turned his head, and upon seeing him enter, he jumped off the sofa and ran to him in two steps, standing at attention, and loudly announced, "Dad's back."
Jeremy gave him a cursory glance, his expression unchanged, as he took off his coat and pulled his tie from around his neck, then headed straight to his bedroom.
