Chapter 9 - Chapter 0008 Which Eye of Yours Saw Me

Jaylene Ziel thought that the drama at Sun City was just a prank played by Raine Thompson and Phoebe Smith to embarrass her in front of Alexander Preston, just to warn her not to cling to Alexander anymore.

Really, Raine Thompson and Phoebe Smith were overthinking. Where did Jaylene show any signs of being clingy?

The next day, as usual, she went to work at Clayton Construction.

"Wow, team leader, you look well," Aria, one of her subordinates, made her a cup of tea and brought it over. "We were worried you might suddenly lose three kilos."

"I'm not on a diet, why would I lose three kilos?" Jaylene rolled her eyes at Aria.

"..." Aria looked at Jaylene, then cautiously said, "Well, didn't Director Preston get married? I thought..."

"He can get married if he wants, what does it have to do with me? Don't make wild guesses, I'm fine," Jaylene picked up the tea Aria had made for her and took a sip.

"Hehe, as long as you're okay," Aria laughed it off. "I was worried that with all these inner hurts, team leader, you would take a long time to recover."

Inner hurts?

Jaylene sneered and glared at her. "It's work hours now, you'd better get out of here. If Director Preston sees you, he might fire you."

"Heh, what's there to be scared of? This is the team leader's office, and if you don't reprimand me, how would Director Preston know that I was chatting here?"

Aria finished her sentence with a triumphant face, but the moment she raised her head, she found someone from the Human Resources Department standing at the doorway.

"Team leader, here's the first draft for your review. If there's anything you need to revise, let me know." Aria said and went out of Jaylene's office right away.

"Jaylene Ziel, you were fired by the company," Peterson from the Human Resources Department handed her an envelope, and inside the envelope was her dismissal letter.

"Why?" Jaylene was instantly furious. "What rule have I broken? Have I made a major mistake or caused significant loss?"

"Well, I don't know," Peterson from the Human Resources Department shook his head. "I'm only in charge of delivering the papers. I heard that your boss wants to dismiss you."

The boss who wanted to dismiss her? Wasn't that Alexander Preston?

Jaylene immediately took this dismissal letter and ran to the director's office.

Five minutes later, Jaylene knocked on Alexander Preston's office door.

"Sit down," Alexander Preston said, seemingly absorbed in official business, as if there was no personal relationship between him and Jaylene.

Jaylene Ziel bit her lip slightly, looking at the scrupulous Alexander Preston in front of her.

He really had changed. Although they were at work, in the past when she came to see him, he would smile at her and even share his coffee with her.

Now, it was indeed a case of seeing someone in a new light after three days.

"What's this about?" Jaylene threw the dismissal letter before Alexander Preston and asked seriously. "Why are you firing me? Give me a reason."

Alexander Preston glanced at the dismissal letter thrown before him but didn't answer Jaylene's question. Instead, he asked her, "Where were you yesterday?"

"Do I need to report to you where I go?" Jaylene coldly met his gaze. "Alexander Preston, what are you to me?"

"I'm just concerned about you," Alexander Preston said apologetically. "Jaylene, I've told you the night before, you need to understand a bit of my difficulties. Right now, I..."

"I require you to tell me why you are firing me," Jaylene interrupted Alexander Preston's words as she was in no mood to hear him blabbering on about other things.

"Jaylene, Raine is my wife. I don't want what happened yesterday to happen again, especially not in the company, so..."

"So you're going to force me out of this company?"

Jaylene slammed her hand hard on Alexander Preston's desk and furiously glared at him. "Alexander Preston, who you marry is your business, but how can you connect your marriage to my job? Are you expecting me to present the big gift of losing my job when you get married?"

"Jaylene, could you not be so impulsive?" Alexander Preston hurriedly explained. "I did this for your own good. In this company, you're bound to run into me, and bound to run into Raine. If company employees start saying you are the third party between me and Raine, wouldn't this be bad for you?"

"I'm the third party between you and Raine Thompson?"

Hearing these words, Jaylene became even more enraged. She slapped her hand hard on Alexander Preston's desk once again. "Alexander Preston, tell me clearly, between Raine Thompson and me, who exactly is the third party?"

What Alexander Preston just said completely enraged Jaylene Ziel.

True, she didn't have Raine Thompson's family background or vast knowledge, nor could she promise Alexander Preston a brilliant future.

But didn't she have self-esteem?

She had known Alexander Preston for ten years and dated him for three, but apparently, she had been looking at the wrong person all this time!

Gazing at Alexander Preston's somewhat bewildered eyes, Jaylene said forcefully, "Alexander Preston, today, if you don't clarify this matter to me, you're not done with me!"

In Alexander Preston's eyes, Jaylene Ziel had always been a considerate, diligent and hardworking good girl. He had known her for ten years, and this was the first time he had seen her lose her temper so badly.

He knew he had wronged her, but under the circumstances, all he could do was to bury his feelings for her deep in his heart and make up for it in the future. Now, he could only let her suffer.

He knew Raine Thompson's personality: she was dominant, domineering, and extremely possessive. She would absolutely not allow him to continue his relationship with Jaylene.

For the sake of their future, he had already taken this step, so there was no turning back, even if he knew it would hurt Jaylene. She would be in great pain, but he couldn't turn back. He had to grit his teeth and move on.

Just then, the door was opened. Phoebe Smith walked in, wearing seven-inch high heels.

"What's going on? Jaylene Ziel, why are you coming to the director's office during working hours?" Phoebe Smith looked at Jaylene with a superior expression, as if looking at garbage on the roadside.

Jaylene didn't know why Phoebe Smith would appear at the company, as she had never seen her there before, and she certainly didn't know what position Phoebe Smith held at Clayton Corp.

However, she could already clearly sense Phoebe Smith's bad intentions. She had witnessed her tactics before, so she needed to stay on her guard today.

"Jaylene came in to ask about work," Alexander Preston habitually wanted to help Jaylene a little and hurriedly opened his mouth, "Phoebe, why are you here?"

"I came to see Sister Raine," Phoebe Smith said, her eyes trained on Jaylene, then she sneered and said, "Hehe, didn't you say it so grandly yesterday? How come today you're using work hours to come seduce my brother-in-law in his office?"

"Who's seducing him?" Jaylene immediately became furious and angrily glared back at Phoebe Smith. "Which eye of yours saw me seducing him?"
