After Frederick Richardson's bone marrow transplant, his health gradually improved. After returning to Bay City and receiving both Chinese and Western medical care, he was able to get out of bed and walk a few steps in the past two days.
"Vivian, do you think I'll be able to walk freely in another two weeks?" Frederick asked his nurse Vivian Santos.
"It should be possible," Vivian said, looking at Frederick, who was leaning against the wall. "Didn't the doctor say your recovery is going very well?"
Upon hearing Vivian's words, Frederick was delighted and nodded, "When I can walk freely, I probably won't have to stay in the hospital much longer. I'm so tired of being here; just the smell of disinfectant makes me nauseous."
Frederick was telling the truth. He had stayed at the hospital for months, and if not for Jaylene Ziel's bone marrow transplant, he would have wanted to leave the hospital to await his death.
