"Alright," Jaylene obediently agreed.
She was no fool; Mr. Campbell coming to the Thompson family home to look for Joseph at this time, likely had something to discuss, and the relationship between Joseph and Mr. Campbell had become somewhat delicate due to the matter of Aurora Richardson.
Jaylene tried to pull her hand away to turn around, but Joseph lifted the hand she had just burnt and gave it a kiss, then instructed her, "Don't get it wet once the ointment is applied."
Joseph kissing her hand in front of Mr. Campbell made Jaylene involuntarily blush. She promptly agreed and then turned to leave.
"What's there to be so smug about for a castoff?"
As Jaylene reached the hall entrance, she heard a sarcastic voice from the side. She looked in the direction of the voice and saw a middle-aged woman walking over. The woman must have witnessed the scene of Joseph kissing her hand.
"Auntie, I don't think we've met before?" Jaylene was sure that she had never met this noblewoman.
