Joseph Thompson didn't immediately drive to the hospital. On the way, he called Frederick Richardson's assistant and learned that Frederick was already out of danger as Ricky Lewis was undergoing a blood transfusion.
So, after driving back to the city district, he drove to a soup house first. Before going to the hospital, he wanted to treat his wife, Jaylene, to a meal. If her health was in jeopardy, she wouldn't be able to help Frederick with his illness.
Jaylene had been leaning against the seat with her eyes closed, only getting up and pushing the door open when Joseph's car stopped. When she looked up and saw a commercial building, she was evidently stunned.
"How did we end up here?" Jaylene looked at Joseph with confusion. "Didn't you say we were going straight to the hospital?"
"We'll eat first and then go," Joseph took her hand gently and said, "It's already past two in the afternoon, well past lunchtime. How can you go without eating something?"
