Joseph leaned against the head of the bed, Jaylene was under the quilt in his arms, with her head on his chest, and his hand embracing her. His slender fingers gently ran through her long hair.
The sound of the rain outside the window gradually faded, and the air conditioning in the room tirelessly blew cool air. Jaylene closed her eyes slightly, embracing the quilt, and in her nostrils lingered the unique pine scent of a man mixed with the smell of shower gel.
Jaylene looked out the window. The thick curtain blocked any light, making it impossible for her to tell if it was morning yet. Only the old clock on the dresser steadily ticked away the time.
