Jaylene Ziel helped Joseph Thompson dress himself amidst various complex thoughts. She helped him put on his undershirt and long-sleeved shirt, and eventually found a pair of socks for him to wear.
Fortunately, even though he was as weak as a sick cat, he could still manage to stand, if somewhat unsteadily - his body felt feeble and fatigued, and he needed assistance walking.
Even so, he seemed to recognize her. Standing at the bedroom door, he smiled at her and said, "My wife is the best!"
Joseph's face, already blotchy from a fever and stomach ache, appeared somewhat gruesome when he smiled, like an unjustly killed scholar in a horror movie.
My wife is the best?
Jaylene was stunned for a moment before being hit with two realizations in quick succession. Firstly, Joseph was not so far gone that he couldn't recognize her, but secondly, he was confused enough to mistake her for someone else.
