Jaylene returned to the door of the Emergency Room and saw her father, Randy Ziel, had rushed over, sweating profusely.
"Jaylene, how's your mum?" Randy asked, panting heavily.
Jaylene shook her head, staring at the red light above the operating room. Her heart felt as if it were in knots.
She picked up her mobile phone and dialed a number she hadn't called in half a year, but which was still etched clear in her memory.
But all she heard from her mobile was a sterile, sweet voice saying, "The person you called has switched off their phone..."
Switched off? She feared that she had misdialled, so she carefully checked the number and called again, but she no longer heard the same off-note announcement.
"Hasn't Dr. Ferguso always been the one treating your mother's heart disease?" Randy, scared out of his mind, anxiously looked at Jaylene.
