Kevin Cliff woke up that very night, and the first words he uttered were, "Is there any news?"
Wester Welson shook his head, unable to bear it.
He pulled out the IV, got off the bed, and Wester understood what he wanted to do. He stepped forward, saying, "Boss, maybe, just let it be."
As the words fell, his collar was immediately seized, "Repeat what you just said!"
"I mean Mrs. Cliff." Wester corrected without changing his expression, "Truly set Mrs. Cliff free. What has happened between you and her can't be evened out with any amends."
Kevin Cliff let go of him and turned away, his pale face, whiter than snow, still bearing wounds and the hue of illness.
He certainly knew that no reparations could fill the hurt he brought her, but, even so, he still did not want to let go.
