Kevin Cliff read the meaning in her eyes and leaned in to help her blow out all the candles in one breath.
The room suddenly plunged into darkness, with a sudden bright light from his phone illuminating the two faces opposite each other, very close, very close indeed.
A warm current of air roamed the space, their breathing growing heavier.
Just as their breaths were about to merge, Charlotte Green suddenly became sober from the confusion and pushed him away fiercely, forgetting she was in the dark, tripped over the coffee table, and nearly fell.
With quick reflexes, Kevin Cliff caught her in his arms, using his own back as a cushion.
But, disaster!
Cake was all over his back!
Charlotte Green lay on his chest, unharmed but still in shock.
"Are you hurt?" Kevin Cliff asked.
Charlotte's body shivered violently, trying to leave his embrace awkwardly but found herself suddenly held tight around the waist.
"Don't move!" he said in a deep voice.
Charlotte instantly froze.
