Charlotte Green really tried hard to fit into the atmosphere here, but, whenever the high society ladies gathered together saw her approach, they would show a look of disdain and then move to another place, the rejection was quite explicit.
After several attempts, Charlotte's initial fighting spirit was shattered, leaving nothing behind.
Standing out of place at the banquet, she looked in the direction Kevin Cliff had left, and then turned her gaze toward her second brother, who happened to be happily talking with Lucas Peak and his daughter. When she lifted her hand to let him know she wanted to go back first, her second brother seemed not to understand her and waved her off dismissively.
Just as she hesitated whether to leave or not, a friendly hand reached out to her, "Mrs. Cliff, hello. My name is Mary, and I'm pleased to meet you!"
Grateful for someone showing friendliness, Charlotte put on a smile and extended her hand, "Hello, I'm Charlotte, just call me Charlotte."
