Elrian paused, weighing his words before speaking. "Serpwingra," he began hesitantly, "I know you've been doing so much for me, but... could you perhaps push a bit harder tonight, trying to expand my qi pool while I sleep? I understand if it's too much to ask."
He felt a pang of guilt. Asking more from Serpwingra felt like taking advantage of the entity's kindness, especially when the spirit had already given so much.
Serpwingra's voice was gentle yet firm, "Elrian, I understand your urgency, especially considering the looming threat. You don't need to feel guilty about asking. I'll do my utmost, putting every ounce of my essence into expanding your qi pool tonight."
Elrian's heart clenched. "Thank you," he murmured, almost in a whisper, "But I must know if there's a limit to how much you can do."
Serpwingra sighed, "I always strive for perfection in whatever I do. In expanding your qi pool, I already perform at near peak efficiency. Pushing further... perhaps it might enhance the process by around 5% at most."
Elrian felt a pang of guilt, realizing he had asked Serpwingra to exert further for such a minuscule gain. "I'm sorry, Serpwingra. I shouldn't have—"
Serpwingra cut him off, "Elrian, your well-being and strength are of utmost importance to both of us. Never hesitate to ask. Together, we face whatever comes our way."
With that reassurance, Elrian laid down, letting the weight of the day's events drift away, trusting Serpwingra to take the lead while he recuperated for the coming day.
The rigorous battles of the previous day, coupled with the whirlwind of emotions he experienced, had drained Elrian. Every fiber of his being craved rest. And with Serpwingra actively working to expand his qi pool while he slept, a deep sense of warmth and security enveloped him. It was as if he was nestled within a cocoon, insulated from the external world and its worries.
The sensation was so profound that Elrian sank into a dreamless slumber, untouched by nightmares or restless thoughts. The hours sped by, the sun climbing its zenith and beginning its descent, all while Elrian remained lost in his deep repose.
It was only when the aroma of freshly cooked food wafted into his room and gentle hands shook him awake that he stirred. Blinking open his eyes, he saw the concerned faces of his parents.
"You've slept till lunch, Elrian," his mother said, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. "We let you rest, considering all you went through yesterday, but you need to eat and regain your strength."
Elrian stretched, feeling surprisingly rejuvenated. He could sense the increased capacity of his qi pool, and though the increment might not be massive, he felt more confident in facing the challenges ahead. The backing of Serpwingra, even though a secret, further bolstered his resolve.
"I'm feeling much better now," Elrian said with a soft smile, pushing aside his concerns for the moment. "Thank you, both of you."
His parents returned his smile, relief evident in their eyes. They were proud of their son, of his strength and determination. They just hoped it would be enough for the looming threat ahead.
As Elrian took a moment to evaluate his qi pool, he could clearly sense its enhanced capacity. The dimensions had grown to a substantial 200cm by 200cm. However, a hint of disappointment tugged at his heart. He'd hoped for an even more considerable increase, given the battles he'd faced and the effort he knew Serpwingra had put in.
However, a realization soon dawned on him. With the expansion of the qi pool, the challenges to further its growth also magnified. The larger it became, the harder each subsequent expansion was. Considering this, the growth he'd achieved was actually remarkable.
He focused his thoughts inward, directing them towards Serpwingra. "Serpwingra," he began, his mental voice tinged with gratitude, "I cannot express how thankful I am for all your efforts. I understand the challenges, and I truly appreciate everything you've done."
Serpwingra's response was gentle, its tone reassuring. "Elrian, always remember that we are in this together. Every effort I put in is not just for you, but for us. Your growth and strength are our shared goals."
Elrian felt a wave of emotion wash over him. The bond he shared with Serpwingra was unlike any other, and he cherished it deeply. He nodded silently, vowing once again to do whatever it took to protect their shared destiny.
The breakfast was a somber affair. Even though no words were spoken, the atmosphere was thick with determination and an unspoken understanding. Each bite, each sip seemed to be in preparation for what was to come. Their collective confidence radiated in the room like a beacon, offering a semblance of hope in these dire times.
Just as the meal was coming to an end, a tremendous surge of qi resonated through the village, causing a slight tremor. Elrian's senses immediately perked up, and he locked eyes with his parents. They could all feel the source emanating from the village entrance. Without uttering a word, they simultaneously got up, pushing their chairs back with a swift motion.
Rushing out, their footsteps synchronized, they made their way quickly through the winding paths of the village towards the entrance. The air grew dense, and a tangible tension hung like a cloud. As they neared the entrance, they spotted Selene, Doren, and Elder Calyx already stationed there, their stances firm, ready to face the approaching threat. The village's qi sensors had come together, united in their cause to protect their home and people.
Elder Calyx's face was stern, his eyes reflecting the weight of the responsibility he bore. The usually vibrant Selene and Doren too looked solemn, but their resolve was evident in their posture and the grip on their weapons.
Elrian's heart raced, but it wasn't out of fear. It was a mixture of anticipation and determination. He took a deep breath, grounding himself, as they all awaited the forthcoming confrontation.
