Chapter 117 - 30 wolfs dead, Elrian Alive

The wolves, sensing Elrian's dwindling energy, began to close in with synchronized precision. The coordination between the elemental wolves was awe-inspiring, a masterful dance of nature's fury. The fiery wolves spouted flames which, when intertwined with the gusts from the wind wolves, created scorching cyclones. The water wolves, in turn, doused these cyclones, creating steam barriers that obscured Elrian's vision and scalded his skin.

The wolves weren't just attacking individually; they were merging their elemental strengths, creating powerful combinations that were both versatile and deadly. The sight would have been beautiful, if not for the mortal danger it posed to Elrian.

A spark of panic gripped him, and for a moment, true despair settled in his heart. But in that depth of darkness, an epiphany struck him. Watching the seamless combination of elemental prowess of the wolves, he realized that he too could harness the wind in similar fashions. His mind, driven by survival instinct and adrenaline, began to whirl with possibilities.

Elrian focused intently on the water and fire wolves, observing how they aided the wind wolves. How the steam intensified the wind's power and altered its course. With this insight, he started adapting, moving in patterns he hadn't tried before. Drawing inspiration from the wolves, he manipulated his own wind affinity in ways that mirrored the wolves' synergies.

Suddenly, in a move that surprised even himself, he channeled his wind Qi to spiral around him, creating a mini-cyclone. Using it as a shield, he kept the fiery and watery onslaughts at bay, while also deflecting the wind-assisted leaps of the wolves.

Every slash of his blade now carried the weight of the gales he commanded. Each step, each pivot, was bolstered by gusts that enhanced his agility and speed. In a semi-trance state, with his sword dancing like a leaf in the wind, Elrian started inventing moves on the fly. Swirls, twirls, thrusts that seemed impossible, were executed with flawless precision. He was no longer just a boy with a sword; he was a tempest, unpredictable and fierce.

The wolves, though relentless, began to falter under his newfound prowess. The tide of the battle shifted subtly. From a prey surrounded by predators, Elrian was morphing into a force that even the elemental wolves found challenging to tackle.

In one particularly dazzling move, he managed to ride a gust of his own making, propelling himself above a group of wolves and striking down with a force amplified by his descent. Two wolves crumpled under that single blow.

However, the battle was far from over. Elrian, though learning and adapting, was also tiring. Every new move, every ounce of Qi used to reinforce his wind abilities, drained him. But the despair he had felt was now replaced by a burning determination. With every breath, every swing of his blade, Elrian vowed not to go down without giving the fight of his life.

As the battle raged on, Elrian's initial surge of adrenaline and rapid adaptation began to take a toll on him. The cyclical gusts and whirlwinds he was summoning to defend and counter-attack were drawing heavily on his Qi reservoir. The vibrant swirl of energy within him was dimming at an alarming rate.

Serpwingra, sensing this rapid depletion, urgently voiced out, "Elrian, you're burning through your Qi too swiftly. You need to harmonize your moves with the ebb and flow of the natural wind around you. Draw from the environment, not just your internal pool."

Elrian, still in his semi-trance, felt a connection between Serpwingra's words and the rhythm of the winds around him. He started to attune himself more closely to the natural gusts and breezes of the environment. Instead of constantly producing wind, he began redirecting and amplifying the existing air currents. He became more fluid, each move an efficient dance of power and conservation.

A wind wolf lunged at him, and instead of summoning a blast of wind to counter, Elrian deftly side-stepped and used a minor gust to divert the wolf into the path of a fiery counterpart. The two collided, disoriented for a crucial second, allowing Elrian to take them both down with a swift sword strike.

The death of their kin sent the wolves into a frenzy. Their eyes glowed with raw fury, their elemental abilities heightened in their berserk state. Fire wolves erupted in more intense flames, water wolves produced jets of pressurized water, and the wind wolves whipped up miniature tornadoes.

Elrian was hard-pressed. He sustained multiple burns, gashes, and bruises. A water jet managed to hit him squarely in the chest, knocking the wind out of him. Yet, every injury seemed to make him more focused, more in tune with Serpwingra's teachings. He started using the wolves' own elemental powers against them, turning their strengths into weaknesses.

When a fire wolf would attack, he'd lure it toward a water wolf, using the ensuing steam as a smokescreen. When wind wolves sent tornadoes, he would redirect them into the midst of the pack, causing chaos.

However, with every counter and redirection, Elrian could feel his Qi waning. He was down to just 5% of his Qi reserves, yet a handful of the most aggressive wolves remained. Drawing deep within, he used the last of his energy to create a maelstrom of wind, pulling the remaining wolves into a whirlwind of slashing sword strikes. One by one, they fell, until the forest clearing stood silent, save for Elrian's heavy breathing.

Bloodied, bruised, but unbowed, he stood amidst the fallen, having conquered an unimaginable foe, and having grown immeasurably stronger in the process.
