Chapter 3 - The WEU

You resurfaced and took in probably the largest breath you have ever taken in your life. Looking up you saw Mark, his face surprised but relieved, he turned around for a moment and then jumped down and curled into a ball, then he hit the water and went under, he was followed by Technoblade, Toby, Tommy, and the masked group. Everyone lived.

After you all got to shore it was a bit safer. "No walkers in the area yet." The leader of the masked group said. Technoblade just nodded, while the others sighed or stayed quiet. "Well, now we aren't in immediate danger, we can all introduce ourselves to the new person, properly." Toby said, lying partly in the water. Technoblade spoke up, "I'm Alexander, just call me Techno." The leader of the masked group took off the mask and said "MJ, this is my crew, Wilbur, Phil, Jared, and you now know Techno, we just call him 'The Blade' though. We are the Walker Eradication Unit, or 'WEU' for short." And since you already knew the bench trio, they didn't bother introducing themselves again.

Toby had fallen asleep by now, Tommy and Mark just stargazing, MJ and Techno were chatting, and Phil was trying to stop Wilbur and Jared from fighting. This was nice, the safest you had felt in a long time. Nothing else happened that night and after waking Toby up you all climbed into the trees to find a good spot to settle for the night.

You woke up in a cold sweat, it was just another nightmare. Humming could be heard to your left and when you looked you saw Wilbur, eyes closed, and humming softly. The song was Dandelions by Ruth B. It was dawn, you could tell from the light pouring over the cliff just like water. You shifted to sit up a bit more and Wilbur's humming stopped. "Did I wake you up?" Wilbur looked over at you. You shook your head, "Nah, just a nightmare." Wilbur nodded, "If you don't mind me asking, do they happen often?" You took a second to think, how many times have you had this nightmare. Probably more than you could count. "Quite often, maybe every time I go to sleep." Silence fell between the two of you. "Should we get the others up?" Wilbur spoke up after a minute of odd silence. "Yea, we need to get an early start today, especially after yesterday." While it took a while to find where Mark had climbed to, you and Wilbur had gotten everyone up quite quickly.

After everyone was ready you all had to get to the city for supplies, while the city was overrun with walkers and one of the main hordes was there, it also had the largest amount of supplies, from clothes and bedding to food and drinks and everything in between. It took a bit to get even halfway to the city, but by the time you all had gotten to a good spot for a break, everyone was tired, thirsty, and hungry. The break was short as you had to reach the city by nightfall. "Philll, do we have to keep walking?" Tommy whined. Wilbur knelt with his back facing Tommy. "Get on you whiny child." Tommy didn't hesitate to jump on Wilbur's back, surprisingly Tommy also didn't say anything about Wilbur calling him a child. "What! That's not fair!" Toby said, obviously annoyed that Tommy didn't have to walk. Mark just picked Toby up like a football without saying anything. Needless to say, that was the last of Toby's complaints.

Plenty more walking and you were all just outside of the city. Before heading in everyone agreed to take a break in a small clearing. You were the first to enter the clearing, then from the trees, someone or something jumped onto you, pinning you to the ground with a knife to your throat. Thankfully it was a person, but that didn't excuse the knife. Wilbur rushed over and picked up the person on top of you, getting the knife out of their hand. "Oh sh*t, you're not a walker." The person that Wilbur had pretty much pried off of you said. Tommy spoke up, and yes, he was still on Wilbur's back, "Of course they aren't one of those dead freaks!" He was irritated by the assumption of you being a walker. He would've been even more upset if they were talking about Wilbur, or himself. Wilbur let go of the person as Tommy jumped off Wil's back to help you up.

You dusted yourself off and said, "So much for first impressions, huh?" The person just chuckled, "Well, I hope you forgive me for that." Tommy crossed his arms and muttered "I wouldn't." not knowing you could hear him. "Anyways, names' Atlas, and sorry again about that whole situation just now." Phil stepped in and asked, "You could join us, if you would like." Which Atlas agreed to the idea. After a bit of rest, the WEU headed to the edge of the city, where the echoes of walkers could be heard. Everyone had to be careful going into the city, as one wrong move could mean trouble.
