The receptionist repeatedly tried to tell Emily that the bill had been paid. But looking at how Emily was not a receptionist, it seemed to be different for her.
In the end, the receptionist got fed up with Emily and gave her the slip detailing the bill. With an embarrassing jolt, Emily looked at the bill and realised someone had already paid it off.
"Uhm, I…"
Emily was so embarrassed that she forgot to speak from there. She looked at the receptionist, but the other was not even looking at her.
"If you want to meet the patient, you can head in now. You can even take her home if you want to. The patient has woken up and is ready to be discharged."
Emily sighed in relief, and she quickly headed into the room. The room looked well-furnished and comfortable. It's far too relaxing compared to what it should look like.
Heck, it looked better than the reception room at the Chlorance main office. (She only knew that because she had been there once.)
The doctor was still in the room, so Emily held her voice in for the time being. But as soon as the doctor left the room, Emily turned on Rachale and gave her a warning look.
"So, what did you do to land yourself in this situation? And you better not lie to me this time because I will know if you do. You should tell me the truth of what happened."
Emily asked Rachael outright. She knew that Rachael would not lie to her over something this big.
"I had an accident in the dungeon. The barrier did not stop me when I was trying to get out, and it caused me to get lost in the dungeon."
Emily looked at Rachael as if she had lost her mind. There was no reason for the barrier to fail to keep Rachael inside.
Unless someone had been targeting her or an artefact had been involved.
"Wait! Is the protection ring you got from Lord Rocx the problem? It could have seen the barrier as a danger to your safety and allowed you to pass it without problem?"
Emily asked, and Rachael instantly took out the artefact. It was void of energy, meaning it had used it all up.
No wonder Rachael could clip out of the barrier so easily. She had the protection of the artefact all along.
"Tsk, this is a problem. For the first time in your life, your father tried to do something good for you, only to end up not being helpful to you. You are a cursed child."
Emily sounded scared when she made that observation. She looked at Rachael as if she were the spawn of the devil herself.
"Perhaps you are right. This small gift from my father did cause me a lot of trouble, and it was not worth it. But if anything, it tells me that I should also not go after his affection in the future."
Emily looked sorry for Rachael. But at the same time, she was not worried about Rachael at all. She was more concerned about herself and what Rachael's absence would do for her.
"Hump, so you do know your place after all. You should spend one more day in the hospital to watch your health.
"You mean to save money for my meals at home? Fine. You are paying for me to stay here. So that is the least I can do for you."
Rachael agreed with Emily, and the elder was surprised to hear what Rachael had to say.
'Huh? Even Rachael does not know what happened to her and who paid for her treatment. Can it be…. that master did this without telling anyone because he felt guilty?"
That was one possibility, but it was not the case this time. The more Emily thought about it, the less likely it seemed.
'There is no point in thinking more about it than necessary. I can have Rachael under my thumb by telling her I did so much for her. This way, she will be indebted to me.'
"You are right. I had to spend a lot of money to get you this treatment, and don't you dare forget it. Since you are alright now, you need to pay me back for all I spent."
Emily bullshitted her way through this conversation. She never expected Rachael to shoot her a look of suspicion, nor did she expect Rachael to ignore her after she was done speaking.
'This little brat! I will make sure you regret looking down on me!'
"Emily, are you sure that you paid for my medical bills? You are not lying to me, right?"
Rachael asked, and Emily broke out into an instant sweat. It felt like she had been caught lying, but Emily did it anyway.
"Huh? What do you mean by lying? I am not lying; everything that comes from my mouth is the truth. If you don't believe me, you can ask anyone."
Emily bragged in front of Rachael, knowing fully well that Rachael had no one to ask about this.
"Oh! That's interesting. You say that you paid for all of this with your own money? You must have borrowed a lot to afford such a nice room in this hospital."
Rachael and Emily looked at the entry. Emily had paled when she noticed Elias's familiar face outside the room.
She had seen him in the newspaper before. And as she had seen him before, she wanted nothing to do with him.
"Elias. Why are you visiting me?"
Rachael asked, but she did not look as offended as she should have. Instead, she looked calm, and her expression made Elias smile.
"I wanted to surprise you with this visit. And did you think that I would not visit you after what happened? I love you-"
Rachael did not allow the other kid to finish his words. She threw a blanket at Elias, and Emily felt her heart freeze in fear.
"Shut up. You are irritating me a lot more than you should right now. I will snap your neck if you do not shut up."
Emily watched with a frozen face as her young charge threw a pillow at one of the most well-known heirs in the current generation.
She either did not know who he was, or he did not care about his lineage. And that might spill Rachael's end.
'I need to stop her before she ends up offending this person. I have no intention of dying right now.'
"Rachael, stop it. Do you know whom you are messing with? Stop trying to get the other people angry."
Emily tried to reach for Rachael's, but she felt the eyes of a predator looking back at her. It made Emily jerk back from Rachael with fright.
When Rachael looked back at her with a questioning look, Emily opened her mouth to ask her what kind of relationship she had with Elias. But the child was still glaring at her and asking her not to ask.
"Aww, how you try to hit me shows how much you love me. It makes my heart swell with pride."
Rachael made a gesture that said she would hit Elias once more if he tried to annoy her.
Emily also noticed how the bodyguards around the room got ready to retaliate against anything Rachael was about to do.
"H-Hey, stop fighting. Young master Elias, please forgive Rachael. She did not mean to insult you in any way. Please do not find fault with us."
Emily begged with fear in her eyes. She was also about to force Rachael to bow her head when Elias moved toward her and placed a hand on Emily's shoulder.
"I don't think there is no need for you to bow like this to me. Especially since you have already borrowed a huge sum of money from us. You are considered *like family*."
Elias spoke rather softly, but his tone was not one to be contested with.
Emily felt a shiver go down her spine when she heard Elias's voice, and she could not help but squeak out.
"W-What do you mean…. I mean, of course. I borrowed money from you so I will pay it all back. There is no need for you to worry."
Emily felt like crying. She had not meant to incur the debt, but she had because she could not keep her mouth shut.
She had no idea why or how Rachael had gotten connected with the young master of Dark Matter, but she knew that it was not good news.
"Good. Then, I will take this as your confession, and I expect you to pay back all the money you borrowed from me. It is a delight to do business with you after all."
Rachael looked between Emily and Elias's conflicting faces, and she sighed. She felt they both had been on different wavelengths, and Emily had indeed been cheated.
"Anyway, now that the fun matter is over, it is time to discuss important matters. Luca, you should come in now as well. We will also need your view on what happened inside the dungeon."
Rachael watched as the familiar red-haired man entered the room. He looked a lot more uncomfortable than the last time Rachael had seen him.
"Young master, is this necessary? I told you that I would take all the blame for what happened. You do not need to drag the young miss in here."
Luca looked ashamed, but Elias did not allow him to look back. Now that everyone was here, he was ready to begin this meeting. He seemed rather happy while doing that as well.
