Rachael's lie was too clumsy. An average person would not have believed a word she said.
But since Hubert lacked any form of human interaction except 'mother' at extreme lengths of time, he could not tell that Rachael was lying.
He could only tell that Rachael was a little 'different' and fragile than him, so there was a possibility that she would not be able to keep her food down.
This further solidified his reasoning since he had never seen his Mommy eat food before him.
"I see. So, you are delicate, sister? I will keep that in mind for our next meal. You better take care of your health, alright? I do not want to lose you too soon."
Hubert's hands shook as he imagined the thought of his new sister dying. The slight shift in his self-control caused his features to shift, and scales appeared on his face.
He looked non-human for a second before the kid took a deep breath and calmed down.
