The familiar root did not relax if Ben remained in its sight. Its tight grip kept Rachael safe, and it finally let go once they were alone again.
"Ouch! Go easy on me a little. I know you are worried about me, but you might end up hurting me at this rate."
Rachael patted the root that held her tightly. The root finally stepped away in apology, but it remained close enough to cover her if anything happened.
It was a cute, familiar, and loyal one as well. But Rachael, only half of her mind focused on the root. The other half was busy decoding what she had heard from Ben.
'Louch, that demon said a higher being has marked me. Was he talking about you?'
Rachael asked the entity inside her. But she did not get an instant answer, which worried her. Louch usually took less time to answer her.
She could feel his presence, meaning Louch had not abandoned her or fallen asleep. He just chose not to answer her.
