Chapter 66 - Assassination

Gu Shang remained silent after hearing Deji, to be honest he had expected this conclusion when Deji started the story, no wonder fatty Su wasn't in the mood.

This was indeed terrible, "You seem to know the culprits, right?" Gu Shang asked.

"Indeed, I know those responsible for those heinous crimes. But like I said, digging deeper might be more costly than you could imagine.

A lot of people would die if the truth is revealed, the streets of the capital will be dyed in red, do you want that to happen?"

Gu Shang smiled, shedding blood was not really a problem for him, as long as they deserved it, he won't even bat an eye.

"You don't have to worry about that, I'll still give Su Dongpo the power he needs, even if the capital is turned upside down, I'll handle whatever backlash that comes after it.

Gu Shang said confidently in a calm manner.

Deji could see why his subordinates had soo much trust and loyalty for him, he had a kind of charisma that was truly unresistable.

He had only just taken Su Dongpo in as he subordinate and he was already willing to protect him at all cost, who wouldn't want to die for such a man.

Gu Shang got up after taking another sip of that heavenly wine, he clasped his hands, "It was nice to meet you, but I'll take my leave now"

Deji also bowed her head slightly with a graceful posture, "The pleasure was all mine, your grace"

Gu Shang nodded and took his leave, when he got to the second floor, all the people were still on their knees.

"Why are you people still on your knees?" Gu asked curiously, it's almost been four incense sticks time... maybe more, since he entered the third floor.

All those who heard this almost spit out blood, "Your grace, hasn't yet given us permission to stand" the beautiful girl from before said.

Gu Shang suddenly remembered that he indeed did not give them the permission to rise, he had remained silent through the entire ordeal.

"You people, should have gotten up if you were tired, I'm not a monster whose going to brutally kill you guys just because you stood with that permission" Gu Shang said as he descended the stairs.

All those on the ground almost stumbled on the ground after hearing him, Big brother over there was very forgetful.

Wasn't he the same person, who literally beheaded a few officials because they refused to bow their heads and take to the knees.

Of course he was the monster he said he was.

Deji smiled as she saw Gu Shang residing back going down the stairs, she couldn't help but smile.

Gu Shang was truly an enigma.

The young people who had initially wanted to bully Gu Shang couldn't help but sweat coldly.

They had now learnt their lesson, they were now going to make sure they know the origins of some people, before they bullied them, no matter how they looked.

Today was a close call.

....

Gu Shang got to the entrance, his simple carriage stood at the front gate, as the Fourth emissary and three other guards guarded it.

"Fourth sister, you really are no fun, you should have seen the delicious delicacies and wines available, that fatty wasn't really blowing his horn with those praises, such a shame you couldn't enjoy it because you refuse to relax" Gu Shang said teasingly as he boarded the carriage.

The fourth emissary couldn't help but roll her beautiful eyes.

"Move!" She gave the command.

It was almost dawn, the city seemed to have become less bustling as majority of the crowd were now either asleep or cultivating.

The night was soo quiet and silent, Gu Shang carriage kept speeding through the empty streets, the fourth emissary couldn't get the feeling of being watched out of her head, as a high level cultivator like her,

Her intuition were almost, all time right. She raised her hands to halt the carriage.

The moment the carriage stopped, a large explosion occured right infront of the convoy, sending the three guards flying off from their horses, the fourth emissary however was able to lessen the impact with a punch she met with the attack, but this still sent her hurtling off her horse too.

The moment she was thrown of her horse, she had not even landed when a blue afterimages zoomed past her with a speed faster than light, she was mid air and knew that, she'll be in danger if her assailant landed a blow, but to her surprise.

The blue figure passed her and went directly towards the carriage.

When the assailant was close to the carriage, a sword appeared in his hand, it's silver body reflected by the rays of the full moon, before horizontally slashing the carriage in half.

The assailant disappeared after that.

It happened too fast for the fourth emissary to see things with her naked eyes, all she saw was the rays of the moonlight reflection on a silver sword, the next thing she saw was the carriage breaking into two before exploding into bits.

To regular people this all could have been said to have appeared in a single blink.

The fourth emissary could feel an immortal's

source power around, and a very strong one to be precise.

This attack was definitely carried out by an immortal king,

There was no doubt about it.

The fourth emissary only glanced at what used to be the location of the carriage, but there was nothing there, only dusty particles filled the area making it a bit hard to see clearly, but in in the midst of all the dust, she saw a silhouette standing there like a statue with his eyes glowing green.

.......

A few breathes before the attack.

Gu Shang was in the carriage thinking about what Liu Feifei said tonight, he couldn't help but also blame himself. When she needed him the most he was never there for her, he felt apologetic, and knew that he could never change the past.

But he was still pissed at how Liu Feifei valued her loyalty to the emperor, more higher and important than their relationship.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Just then he saw a shadow following him with off the charts killing intent, but the person was able to conceal it so well, "he had to be an expert in this"

"Hmmm, is he from Spring Autumn?" Gu Shang thought but shook his head, Deji stood to gain nothing from killing him, and he was yet to offend them, at least not to his knowledge.

He stopped thinking about who, since there were millions of people who wanted him dead, he'll just have to ask the assassi....

Suddenly an explosion was heard, and just like teleportation, a sword sliced through the carriage aiming for his neck.

Gu Shang eyes suddenly glowed green, everything around him suddenly began to slow down allowing Gu Shang the time to slightly shift from the trajectory of the sword.

He saw the tip of the sword pass just an inch away from his eyes, he could feel how powerful the sword was, besides a single cut from it might actually kill him, because the sword was laced in potent poison.

Just being close was enough to give him chills. "He formed a dome around himself, when he felt the carriage being unable to take the pressure from the sword, before it exploded.

.........

Presently

Gu Shang walked towards the Fourth emissary, and gave her a hand, "Are you alright?" He asked.

The fourth emissary nodded, Gu Shang proceeded to take a look at the other three, their condition was a bit serious since they had internal bleeding.

Gu Shang forcefully suppressed their injuries for them, before forcing a pill down their throats since they were unconscious.

The pill was a healing pill which helped fasten the internal injury healing of cultivators, it was quite rare.

After Gu Shang was done, the fourth emissary couldn't help but speak, "Eldest brother, let me go after him!"

Gu Shang shook his head, "we were attacked by a very skilled assassin, did you see how quickly, he attacked and withdrawed?

He didn't even check to confirm whether he got me or not, he just retreated after the attack. This is the true essence of assassination, strike quickly and withdraw even more quickly without leaving any traces behind, he's probably escaped the capital by now.

If it was any other day, I wouldn't have pursued the matter, unfortunately for them, today isn't any other day!" Gu Shang said icily.

"I'll handle this myself, send a mobilization order, be on guard and await my orders!" Gu Shang said before his figure shot towards the sky and, BOOM he disappeared.

The fourth emissary took an arrow and bow, this was the same arrow used in Hanshu City.

She released the string, causing the arrow to soar towards the sky with the speed of lightning, before it exploded in the sky.

A blinding light flashed across the entire capital, the lights could even be seen from the outer boarders of the capital.

This immediately caused everyone to panic in the domain, since they didn't understand what was going on, servants woke up their masters to see the phenomenon.

Everyone in the domain glanced at the sky in fear, it was still supposed to be midnight so where was the light coming from?

The lights lit up the sky for more than ten breathes, before disappearing. After the disappearance of the blinding lights, they could all now see the figure of roaring Qilin in the sky.

In the far east side of the capital, a middle aged man in all black turned around to see the bright light and the roaring Qilin in the sky.

He took in a deep breath before turning to flee again, but he had to land on the ground to continue his journey, if he continued to fly solo, he might be found sooner rather than later. Besides he needed to save his Qi and energy in case of any emergencies.

Though he was thousand of miles away from the capital, he was still cautious showing how experienced he was.

He had just walked for less than twenty meters when he saw a man, roasting what seemed to be a pheasant.

The man wore white robes which complemented his silver hair perfectly.

He raised the pheasant with a stick over the fire, and glanced at the middle aged man.

The middle aged man froze on spot, "Impossible!!!!"

"I've been waiting for you!" Gu Shang said coldly.
