Iago lay in Cass's childhood bedroom, it was exactly how Iago remembered it being when they were about eight years old, even the bed was the same, even though Iago knew it was changed after he had lost his vision.
He looked over, Cass was laying next to him, sleeping peacefully. He looked the same as Iago pictured him three years ago. A fourteen year old with soft dark hair and skin, and his favorite cotton pajamas twisted around him. The only thing that was different was that he looked healthy, as if he had never gotten sick. His hair was still thick and you could still tell from his figure that his parents ran the Crosswoods bakery.
Iago ran his fingers through Cass's hair, humming softly. After a while Cass's chestnut brown eyes opened, he yawned and sat up. Cass smiled, his teeth were that of a wolf.
¨Cass? Are you okay?¨ Iago asked slowly, extending his hand towards Cass. As his finger brushed Cass's face the room fell away. Iago looked around frantically looking for Cass in the darkness the room had turned into.
¨Iago? Iago, I'm scared, what's happening to me?¨ Cass called out his voice torn by muffled sobs. Iago pulled himself to his feet and ran towards where the voice was coming from.
¨Iago! The doctor says you did this to me, I thought you said you'd never hurt me!¨ Cass's screams now seemed to come from everywhere.
¨Cass! Please I don't know what happened to you, if I caused it I swear I didn't mean to!¨ Iago called out, still running. Iago didn't know how long he ran desperately trying to find Cass. He could feel his dreamesque health fading as he struggled to keep running. His lungs were burning and, with every thud of his boots hitting the ground he had to fight harder to bring his feet back up.
Iago fell to all fours, he felt as if every muscle in his body had torn. He fell into a coughing fit, as he coughed he could feel that watery feeling in his lungs. He tried desperately to get the feeling to leave but as he coughed he started to feel a warm liquid raise over him.
As the liquid rose Iago had to start swimming, the pain in his limbs and lungs made it nearly impossible to keep his head above the surface.
¨Iago, please help!¨ Cass's screams for help looped randomly being replaced with gurgles. Iago looked through the thick red liquid trying to spot Cass while staying up himself, he did. Cass was at the bottom yet some of his words still rang clear.
¨Iago, you aren't going to leave me again are you?¨
Iago took a deep breath and pushed himself under the surface diving towards Cass. No matter how much he kicked he couldn't get to Cass.
¨No No No, I won't let you get hurt again!¨ Iago shouted at Cass, he regretted opening his mouth which had filled with the liquid. The metallic taste made it clear to Iago, he was swimming in blood.
Something grabbed one of his legs and pulled him up and away from Cass. He watched as Cass grew smaller and smaller until he couldn't see him anymore.
With a blink of an eye the room changed, he was laying in front of Lenny's bedroom fireplace.
¨You betray your sweet Cass, and now me?¨ It was Lenny who was sitting next to him polishing the Oakman sword.
