Chapter 3 - Fighting a grotesque creature

"As soon as the shining core was thrown into my stomach, I felt weird.

I didn't know how to put it; it felt strange and mysterious.

It was then that I heard a strange voice in my head.

[You have consumed a level 1 grotesque core.'

[You have leveled up to level 1]

[You have received one flexibility point] the voice said.

I had read too many novels to know what the sound meant.

I almost burst into waves of laughter from the joy I was feeling. But the weird creature, which I now realized was a grotesque creature, was right at the entrance of my room.

As for why it hadn't entered, I didn't know and couldn't be bothered to think about it. After all, it was to my benefit, and I wouldn't even mind if it stayed in one spot forever.

'System, system,' I shouted out lightly, but the system never replied or answered my calls.

My expression suddenly turned solemn. I indeed heard the system's voice, so why isn't it responding, I pondered.

It was then that a sudden realization dawned on me. The system wasn't a user-friendly system.

As for why I thought this, the system didn't announce that the host had consumed a grotesque core. Instead, it announced that I had consumed a grotesque core. That was more than enough to realize the kind of system it was.

Second, and last of all, it never answered my calls. I knew without a doubt that it wasn't a user-friendly system.

If I was right, I shouldn't be the only one that had such a system, and it was also possible for others to have. I couldn't be sure about that. I was lost in my thoughts.

When I heard a creaking sound, which I knew was the sound of the wooden door of the living room being opened.

I knew that the grotesque creature had entered the living room. An idea suddenly came to my mind; even though the system wasn't user-friendly, that didn't mean I couldn't use its functions.

I just had to figure it out.

'My status,' I murmured. And as I expected, my entire status was revealed.

Name: Aven Alexandra.

Race: Human.

'So this is my status, quite intriguing,' I murmured.

'Status close,' I said. And the status suddenly vanished just as it had suddenly appeared.

'Well, let's find a way to deal with this grotesque creature,' I thought.

The grotesque demon was three feet away from the kitchen door, swaying around as it walked towards the kitchen door in a weird manner, as though it had been injected with chicken blood.

I calmed myself, waiting patiently for the grotesque creature to arrive at the kitchen door.

Finally, my answers were answered. The grotesque creature had finally arrived at the kitchen door.

As soon as it appeared, I rolled forth, swinging the knife in my hand with an uppercut.

Puchi, the grotesque creature had its throat pierced, but luckily for the grotesque creature and bad for me, the knife had only managed to create a large cut on the grotesque's throat, not enough to incapacitate it from moving.

The grotesque opened its smelling and disgusting mouth that I knew just by seeing it was enough to cut my head off without any resistance whatsoever.

Not daring to waste any moment, I did two backflips, avoiding the bite of the grotesque, although I had managed to survive that moment and escape from the hands of death.

I had a bigger problem. My knife was stuck at the grotesque's throat.

I was weaponless. My expression turned solemn. I couldn't even pierce through the grotesque skin while being equipped with a knife.

Now that I have lost my knife, I didn't need anyone to tell me that I was in a huge amount of trouble.

Taking this opportunity, I wasn't even sure the grotesque took two large strides in a badly synchronized manner.

It had appeared in front of me. It swiped out with its claw, threatening to rip out my neck from my body. But of course, I couldn't allow this to happen. I didn't want to die yet after all, and no one would want to die. I wasn't an exception to that.

I rolled to my left side in a fast, reactive manner, but this didn't stop the grotesque from continuing its assault.

The grotesque swung its head towards me, opened its mouth wide open, hoping for a bite.

Dey play, I thought in my mind. As I dropped onto the ground, the grotesque missed its footstep and was left in an unbalanced position.

About to fall down, seeing this opportunity, I had to be dumb if I didn't make use of it.

While on the ground, I unleashed a swirling kick. Bang, bang, bang. The sound of successive kicks landing on the grotesque's feet rang out.

The grotesque couldn't maintain its balance anymore. It fell headfirst with a loud boom being produced.

It had fallen with its head directly hitting the floored tiles at such a great level of impact. It should be dead, I thought, as I made my way to remove my knife.

As soon as my hand was about to touch the knife, whoosh.

The demon swiped out with its claw even in such a damaged state, with green blood rapidly overflowing from its body.

It was still able to attack, I was impressed. Such resilience and tenacity were indeed impressive.

But of course, I wouldn't allow myself to be bitten; who knew what would happen if I got bitten.

As soon as the claw was about to swipe my hands, I made a leap into mid-air.

While about to land on the grotesque that lay on the ground, I exerted all the force that could be exerted from my right leg and stepped down with great force.

Boom, the grotesque's head had smashed headfirst with the tile in such a devastating manner.

Boom, green blood splashed out from the grotesque's head, which I had already anticipated from the force I had used to smash the grotesque's head against the tile.

With three black flips, I avoided the burst of green blood. Without a doubt, the grotesque was deader than dead.

I thought as I collapsed onto the floor, heaving a sigh of relief.

Although all this had been accomplished in nothing but some minutes, to me, it felt like an eternity had passed.

'For every moment that passed in the fight, had with it the risk of me being killed or incapacitated or even worse still turned into a grotesque.

I knew this was just the beginning, and I had to brace myself for the upcoming war and battles that I would face, all just for one word: Survival. I had to survive, and I would survive at all costs,' I thought, as I closed my eyes, to catch some breath of fresh air, free from any weird creature or grotesque.

But my thought was suddenly disturbed by the..."
