"Hiccup… dammit…. how could… hiccup .. I, end up like this.
In the end… hiccup,I'm even worse than them."
I always despised everyone, from the moment I turned twelve, I saw everyone else as stupid, they spent all their time playing around, and they argued for futile reasons.
I was simply smarter, everyone else was trapped, in a world were the things that mattered more were branded clothing and acting cool.
I also used to think like that, however my reality changed the moment my parents died.
I still remember it clearly, it was the first day of world war three.
Unlike in the other two, the nations weren't fighting between themselves in this war, an external enemy threatened the survival of the human race.
Fissures appeared.
Everyone thought it was just something created by the government or the rich, unfortunately, it was not, and the moment monsters started flooding out of the gates, the whole world fell in chaos and hundreds of millions of lives were lost in the next few months.
I was unluckily, those bastards killed both my parents.
And my sister, eighteen-year-old at that time, left me alone, she used the inheritance of our parents and bought an house for herself, leaving me alone at just the age of twelve.
That day, when I realised I was alone, I swore on my own life, that I Alessandro Temi would've brought demise to those monstrous bastards, and then, I would've lived a luxurious life, one than everyone else could only dream of.
"And look at me now, ten years have passed from then, and I still haven't accomplished anything."
He was sitting on the white sofa, in the house his parents left for him."
In the end, my resolve was futile, it's not like I can accomplish anything without awakening.
*When the gates broke out, the military's artillery couldn't hold the monsters back, and the only line that separated humanity from demise were the awakened.
They had special powers and their bodies had long surpassed human standards, they were superhuman.
"If only…. If only I was an awakened.
No, even if I was, I wouldn't have been able to change anything" he said with a desperate voice, the silence filled the room for a few seconds, while a scarce ray of moonlight penetrated the window on his left and landed on his cheek.
After a while, in a fit of rage he smashed the bottle on his forehead.
Half of the bottle body was gone and a few scratches remained on his face, he held the bottle neck with both his hands and raised his chin showing a large part of his jugular.
He pulled with all his might, even if eyes were submerged in tears, he had already taken his decision: if his life didn't have any impact on anyone, then, it would've been better to just end this here, he wouldn't have to worry about anything anymore.
Just as the blaze sharp bottle was closing on to his throat, a screen appeared in front of his teary eyes.
He could barely see it, but a floating rectangle was standing right in front of his nose, written on the screen was:
———————————
Congratulations on your awakening…
———————————
This stopped his action, and now that the adrenaline had come out of his body, exhausted his eyes closed on their own, and he fell asleep on the sofa, keeping the half broken bottle in his hand while little drops of red wine were sliding down, dripping on the white carpet.
A warm ray of sunlight came through the window reflecting on his golden hairs, poking his eyes and waking him up, his eyes slowly opened and after getting comfortable with the light he could see once again.
He turned his head slightly, and saw the bottle in his right hand, he recalled the memories from the previous night and panicked quite a bit:
"I…. Almost killed myself"
What happened to me, I was drunk but I still can't believe I attempted suicide.
Why, was I drinking in the first place? oh…. that's right, yesterday, it was my birthday.
As he thought those words, his azure eyes saddened and his face was coated by a melancholic expression.
Is it.. 22 now?
I'm getting old.
Calming down he thought about what happened again and remembered the floating window.
"Awakened huh.. I must've been really drunk and desperate, haha"
He left out a mocking laugh, directed to himself.
He then soon stopped laughing and thought in his mind: if only, I wasn't just imagining things.
He let out a sight of tiredness, and laid the back of his head on the sofa watching up.
His eyes soon widened and his sad expression rapidly changed into a surprised one.
For the second time, in front of his face, was standing the text:
————————————
Congratulations on your awakening,
You now shoulder the responsibility of exterminating the monsters threatening your planet
————————————
I, must be still drunk.
Not only was it crazy for him to have awakened, but even if he had, that was not how an awakening would've gone.
Normally mana would've start entering his body, and he would've started feeling his body grow stronger, however, not only did he not sense any mana, but his body also felt as usual.
So he just gave it some thought, and labelled himself crazy.
And just as he was convincing himself of not having awakened. The message in front of him changed, this time, it stated something even more shocking in confront to the first time
————————————
Extinguishing the monsters it's not an achievement you can accomplish by yourself, you will be able to take your allies abilities.
The more your group grows, the stronger you will get.
————————————
Alessandro stood there still, trying to find a way to explain what was happening.
No matter how much he tried.
He had no idea.
