Chapter 13 - Prisoner of the Shadow

*The room where Haruki is kept*

The door to the dark, empty room creaked slowly, promising something ominous in its reverie. Haruki, who was tied to a chair in the center of the room, slowly raised his head, his eyes filled with both fear and certainty. Kohei Ichimura was standing in front of him — a familiar face, but the current situation asked him a lot of questions.

— Why did you come? Haruki asked with fear, trying to figure out what awaits him next.

Kohei, with composure and a lack of regret on his face, came closer, as if ready to embody his sinister intentions.

"To do this," Kohei kicked Haruki in the stomach with a swing.

The chair Haruki was tied to gave way under the impact, taking off and flying several meters ahead. Haruki couldn't hold back a cry of pain as thick blood started pouring out of his mouth, splattering the floor of the room.

— Shut up! Kohei growled, placing his foot on Haruka's bleeding face.

Despite the pain and stiffness, Haruki did not stop talking, and an unshakable spirit broke through in his bloody words.

— No matter what your plan is, the Committee will never give up, — spat Haruki, stained with blood, but not intending to give up.

Smiling maliciously, Kohei suddenly felt Haruki abruptly pull out from under his leg, freeing himself from control. Confused and a little dumbfounded, Kohei began to ask questions.

"I never thought you were so strong," he shouted, but there was doubt in his voice.

— Do you think that everything is decided by force? Haruki asked, breaking out of his forgetfulness, as if fully aware of the importance of his words.

Malice and anger permeated his every movement, every letter of the spoken word. Haruki retreated a few steps, preparing to see Kohei's reaction.

— Shut up! Kohei shouted, aiming his punch at Haruka again.

But this time help came, Rikuto, who suddenly entered the room, ordered to stop the violence. His voice sounded firm and uncompromising.

Haruki, weak and exhausted, turned his gaze to Rikuto, waiting for some explanation.

— And you're here. What are you up to? Haruki asked with an attempt to understand and figure out the situation.

Rikuto slowly squatted down in front of Haruki, his hand lightly slid over Haruki's bloody hair, as if calming him.

"You see, Haruki, our plan is to control the whole city. We can multiply our profit several times, even five times. I just can't miss this opportunity," Rikuto whispered softly, trying to explain his point of view

Kohei, mocking Haruki and the situation, decided to add:

— Well, yes, the salary will be raised.

*Cubic prison dedicated to Poison Queens*

Cubic prisons are a unique and unusual place of detention of dangerous criminals with magic. Unlike ordinary prisons, this prison is a cubic space that has become a kind of world for prisoners. Imagine a cubic room, but only on a gigantic scale. The length of such a prison is usually about 10 kilometers, creating a small, but closed and limited residential world. Each such prison is divided into many cubic cells in which prisoners are kept. In the chambers added in this space, you will find some necessary items for a comfortable stay.

There are a couple of comfortable beds here, allowing prisoners to rest and sleep. Toiletries are also not forgotten - prisoners are provided with toilets for personal hygiene. And if they want to relax and unwind, they can use the comfortable sofas that have been added for this purpose. How do prisoners live in such cubic prisons? They are deprived of freedom, limited in space, and their only entertainment is the gifts they receive for good behavior. These gifts can be different. For example, prisoners may be given a drawing board or a piece of paper so that they can show their creative abilities. In special cases, when prisoners show special obedience and good etiquette, they can even be provided with a TV, and this becomes a real event in their lives. This opportunity helps them to temporarily distract themselves and forget about the conclusion, plunging into the world of television programs and films. Time in a cubic prison is an extremely important factor. Employees responsible for the maintenance and organization of these prisons have the ability to regulate spatial time. Usually this time is appointed by the court, and its change can have significant consequences for prisoners. They live in a limited space not only physically, but also in a temporal aspect.

*Special Patrol Office*

Hiroki, the head of the Special Patrol Department, was in his office, devoutly working on solving urgent problems. A phone call from the head of the Yukisaku city police rang out and broke the silence in the room. Hiroki immediately picked up the phone, waiting for important news. The voice of the head of the city Police conveyed concern and anxiety about the possible outbreak of hostilities between the Special Patrol and the Bloody Carnival, an insidious and cruel criminal group that has recently become increasingly active. The fighting could lead to serious consequences for the security of the city. Hiroki listened carefully to the information, carefully recording every detail to be fully informed. There was also valuable information - some Carnival members arrived in the city by plane and landed at another airfield located at the end of the city. This information required urgent action, and Hiroki immediately decided to send his faithful secretary with full information about the incident to the Investigation Committee. He understood that this was not the time for slow and relaxed actions - every minute was valuable.

*Headquarters of the Committee of Investigations*

Yukio Sato, the chief investigator, was immersed in one of the complex murder cases that had been handed over to him by the military police. However, suddenly his reverie was interrupted by the ringing of the phone, which broke through the silence of the hall. It was Hiroki's secretary, passing important information to Yukio. Stupor and shock gripped Yukio when he heard that Haruki, one of the outstanding members of the committee, had been abducted by the Bloody Carnival. He instantly summoned everyone in the headquarters to gather in the hall immediately. As one, the committee members went from the kitchen to the hall to discuss what had happened and develop an action plan. Yukio, standing in front of everyone, began to talk about the situation.

He stressed that the situation is extremely tense, since the Bloody Carnival plans to seize 30% of the city that the committee controls. Reviewing the information received from Hiroki, Yukio reported that a Special Patrol had already tried to arrest them, but without success. Anger flared up in Kazuto, one of the committee members, when he heard about Haruka's abduction. He warmly expressed his readiness to inflict revenge and intimidate those who dared to endanger their colleague. Yukio insisted on acting wisely and coolly. He noted the need to develop a full-fledged plan, including traps and tricks to defeat the Bloody Carnival. Yukio decided to take this responsibility on himself, calling on other members of the committee to organize and support him. The hall was filled with an energetic discussion when the committee began to prepare for a clash with the Bloody Carnival. Yukio warned everyone against underestimating the criminal gang, noting that they are the largest criminal organization in the city of Yukisaku with magical abilities.

*A cubic prison in which Poisonous Queens are kept*

There is a special atmosphere in the cubic prison, specially allocated for the prisoners of the Poisonous Queens. Yuka, one of the members of the criminal gang, was lying on her bed and gazing at the cloudless white ceiling, like an endless space that spreads inside the prison building. A sky that doesn't end anywhere. Suddenly, Miyuka, the youngest of the Poison Queens, turned to Rin, the head of the Poison Queens, with a question about her confidence in the success of Sakura's plan. Rin answered this question, saying in a hoarse and old voice, but at the same time endowed with a kind of wise vision. She began to tell Miyuka that despite their absence, Sakura is able to cope with the task on her own. The ringing sound of Rin's laughter rang out in the resounding room. She smiled and continued that indeed they, the Poison Queens, could be Sakura's mainstay, but she was sure that she would successfully carry out her plan.

*The room where Haruki is located*

Rikuto, the head of the Bloody Carnival, began an active and intellectual conversation with Haruki, whom they kidnapped and tied to a chair as their prisoner. Haruki was eager to get at least some information from Rikuto about his plan. He was interested in the details, wanted to understand the goals of the group and for what purpose they kidnapped him. However, Rikuto refused to reveal the details of his plans, keeping all the cards in himself. At the same time, Kohei, who was standing at the end of the room by the door, constantly provoked Haruki, insulted him and humiliated him. Haruki felt helpless and weak in such a humiliating position, realizing that he had become a hostage of circumstances. However, this did not allow him to accept the situation, and he continued to search for answers. He was eager to find out exactly why he was abducted from the committee and what role he plays in the plans of the Bloody Carnival. Rikuto was slightly peering into Haruka's face, it was impossible to understand what was going on in his head. He answered Haruki with similar general phrases, saying that it was advantageous for them to have him as a hostage, since he was considered the main weapon of the Committee of Investigations. This made Haruki desperate and infuriated, he could not forgive himself for being promoted to the podium among the other members of the committee.

He tried to ennoble Rikuto and show him another picture, that there are many strong and capable members in the committee. He hoped that this would convince Rikuto, turn his understanding of the situation around. However, Rikuto was constantly moving away from this topic, changing the direction of the conversation, not allowing Haruki to move on. Haruki had a hard time understanding what was confusing Rikuto in his misconceptions about himself. Perhaps it influenced his plans or caused some anxiety. And yet, Rikuto decided to hint at one detail of his audacious plan. In an atmosphere of tension and secrecy, he told Haruki about the plans for a Bloody Carnival: They seek to seize all military bases in Yukisaku District and launch military equipment against the committee. He was carefully watching Haruka's reaction, and there was a fire of interest and fascination in his eyes, born of the opportunity to unravel Rikuto's trumps. However, Haruki couldn't help but laugh at the insignificance of such a plan. He considered him stupid and frivolous, not seeing any real danger in him. Rikuto, who was looking at Haruka's laughing face, was fascinated and interested. Excitement flickered in his eyes as he saw that Haruki was hiding something, that there was a strategic trump card in their reserve that had not yet been revealed. Rikuto was subversive and liked to challenge people to open up and test hidden cards. Haruki answered Rikuto sternly and adamantly, calling him a jerk, since he only relies on such a stupid plan. However, Rikuto raised his hand, showing Haruki his fingers, the counter is four, and stated that he still had four aces up his sleeve. He told Haruki not to underestimate his genius and to stay alert. This caused even more ridicule from Haruka, who mocked how Rikuto considers himself a genius. Haruki considered Rikuto to be a limited person, not capable of a full-fledged strategy and followed his words only empty statements. He was sure that the Committee of Investigations would be able to destroy all the plans of the Bloody Carnival, no matter how serious they might seem.
