We stepped inside the house, and as the door closed behind us, a comforting sense of familiarity washed over me. It was a place filled with the echoes of our childhood, a sanctuary where we had shared countless moments of laughter and bonding.
A woman's voice rang out, saying, "Is Kazuma back from school?" It felt familiar, a voice I hadn't heard in a while. I rushed towards the direction of the voice, which was coming from the kitchen.
I hurried over and stopped when I took a glance. Tears started dripping from my eyes. I couldn't understand why, but I felt like some part of my memories was missing, and sadness welled up in my heart.
My mum turned her head, her gaze meeting mine. She looked confused, trying to understand why I was crying, and asked, "What's wrong, Kazuma?" Her voice filled with concern and comfort.
"Nothing, Mum," I said, using the sleeves of my shirt to wipe away the tears from my eyes.
"Are you sure, dear?" My mum's face showed worry and concern.
"Don't worry, Mum, it's nothing. It's just that I miss you," I said, giving her a reassuring smile.
"This is new; I have never heard you say such comforting words," my mum said, giving me a smile and forming a thoughtful expression on her chin.
Hearing her say this made me feel shy because I recalled that I always complained about my dad to my mum. I turned my head to the side, avoiding her gaze, and said, "Forget I ever said that, Mum; it's embarrassing."
My mum chuckled and started laughing out loud. "Sorry, Kazuma, I was just teasing you," she said between laughs.
Nezuko tugged at my shirt, trying to get my attention, and said, "Brother, let's play a game."
My mum, hearing this, smiled and said to me, "Go on and play with Nezuko. She has been waiting at the front door for you for a while. I will call both of you when dinner is ready."
Hearing what Mum had just said, Nezuko, who couldn't wait to play games with me, released my hand and bounded off towards the living room, her enthusiasm contagious. "Come on, Onii-chan! Let's play our favorite game," she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"I am right behind you, Nezuko," I said.
I followed her into the living room, a cozy space adorned with family photographs and mementos of our shared experiences. I looked at those photographs and gave a big smile. Then, I turned to Nezuko and asked, "Which game are we playing today?"
"We are playing treasure hunting," Nezuko said with a big smile that showed her excitement.
If I recall from my memories, Nezuko's favorite game was treasure hunting. She would hide small trinkets around the house, and I would be tasked with finding them. It was a simple game, but the joy it brought to her face was immeasurable. Today was no different, as she handed me a list of items to search for, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
With the list in hand, I set off on my mission, scouring every nook and cranny of the house. It was a game we had played countless times before, but each hunt brought new surprises. Nezuko's clever hiding spots often left me puzzled and impressed by her creativity.
After about 10 minutes, I had found all the items on the list. Returning to the living room with a handful of hidden treasures, I saw Nezuko's eyes light up with delight. She clapped her hands in excitement, and her laughter filled the room like a sweet melody. In that moment, I realized that preserving her happiness and innocence was not only a duty but also a source of immense joy for me.
I smiled and said, "Nezuko, is there any other game you want to play?"
Before Nezuko could respond, Mum called out, "Dinner is ready," which made Nezuko give a disappointed look.
I rubbed her head and said, "Don't worry, Nezuko, we'll play throughout the day on the weekend."
Hearing this, Nezuko's eyes sparkled like stars, and she rushed towards me, hugging me tightly. "I love you, Brother," she said.
Hearing her say this filled me with joy and happiness, and I replied, "I love you too, Nezzan," while hugging her back.
"Let's go and eat dinner," I said, holding my sister's hand as we walked together to the dinner table.
---
After having lunch and giving my sister her usual goodnight hugs, and wishing both my mum and Nezuko goodnight, I went straight to my room to rest. I opened the door to my room and quickly dove onto my bed.
I stretched my arms and started thinking about the events that happened today. I put my hands on my chin, forming a thoughtful posture, and said, "Now the main issue is how can I activate or control my powers?"
I pondered and answered my own question, "It looks like my ability activated when I was in a state of anger driven by revenge. It seems that is a major factor in how my abilities work."
I sat up straight in an instant and continued, "Let's not forget when I tried to free Susan from those twin brothers by controlling them with my powers. It didn't work, but I received a prompt saying 'command can't be activated.' Hmm, does my abilities work with mana? Because I remember when I had issues with some commands to Trish, some mana was used, and I had 1 mana when I tried controlling those twin brothers."
I let out a sigh and concluded, "I should better learn how to take better control of my abilities to achieve my revenge."
"Yawn, I am kind of tired..." I began to say before quickly falling asleep.
