Gad Pa looked up!
Scared!
He was on a planet called Guramanda and furthermore on an island! This was too much. He had never heard of any of these places.
He felt really frightened.
He had heard many strange tales of the dangers that lurked in islands, especially as deserted as this one.
He had not seen any living soul apart from the man who had chased him down who was now a half-eaten corpse!
Were there other people around? He looked at the display before him and clicked on the 'explore' button.
The screen shifted and he appeared to be in some sort of a rollercoaster moving rapidly around the island. He saw his location, he was in a tiny town within the island. The town had only three streets and a few blocks of houses. Residential area was on one side, shops on another street and what looked like a machinery plant occupying the other street.
He didn't see any people on the map as he virtually travelled across the island.
He turned to the west side of the island and saw what looked like a forest and beyond it the beginning of the ocean. What impressed him was a symbol of a ship on that point.
"I might find my way out of this island through the West," he said.
Thus he decided to go to the West. He would stay no more on this island.
He was about to deactivate the Divine Mind mode when a beeping sounded and the button of 'Missions' began blinking.
Gad Pa hesitated from pressing the button. His hand hovered above the button for some seconds. He wondered what would be the result of pressing the obvious button.
"Let us see what you have for me!" he finally decided.
The screen again shifted and several lines appeared.
{Mission Task}
{Rescue 10 Chosen Islanders}
(Task Reward: Completing this mission will earn you amazing rewards useful for your destiny)
(Note: the mission might be in conflict with the G7 guidelines! Take care!!)
...
Gad Pa was even more baffled. What was this mission? Who was authorizing it?
He had only been directed to rescue ten Chosen Islanders! Did it mean there were other people in the island? What was he going to rescue them from? How?
What struck him the more was the last remark that the mission might be in conflict with the G7! As he understood it, this line meant the mission he was being asked to take was not from the G7!
Where then was it coming from?
He could not tell. This was weird as he had thought that he was alive because of the G7 and he was therefore supposed to be loyal to it even though he did not know much about this organization called G7.
Yet here he was being given a mission from a display screen inside his head.
He looked below the lines and saw another button with the words: ACCEPT.
Just that!
Only accept! There was no other button. He expected there to be two buttons giving him two choices to either accept or decline the mission.
Not with Divine Mind!
Here he had no two alternatives. He was to accept the mission no matter what.
"This is absurd!" he thought.
"What if I don't accept and instead go back?" he said as he clicked the arrow that indicated going back to the previous page.
'Brrrrr!'
The screen buzzed.
Red lights flickered. This meant he couldn't go back to the previous page.
"Okay then close the page!" he demanded as he clicked on the closing tab.
'Brrr!'
Another buzz!
He couldn't even close the page!
Gad Pa sighed.
He had no other alternative but to accept the mission.
'ACCEPT!'
He finally pressed the button.
Ding!
A pleasant sound rang as the screen shifted. Then a voice was heard. This was similar to that from his digital clock on his hand, but no doubt from a different source.
{Congratulations!}
{Mission Confirmed}
{Rescue 10 Chosen Islanders, earn great rewards}
....
The voice ended and suddenly the Divine Mind mode deactivated itself.
Gad Pa returned to reality. There was no longer a virtual screen in front of him. But he was outside on a deserted street.
"The corpse!" he recalled and looked back. Sure enough, a few meters from him laid the half eaten man.
"I can't stay here!"
He walked away briskly, feeling sick from the thought of having eaten a human being.
He reached a junction and crossed the street. He was now away from the residential houses.
"Hey are you there?" Gad Pa called to his conscience. He was testing out a theory. He remembered the voice that had spoken to him earlier in the hall and wondered if he could reach out to the sweet spoken lady only by thought.
"Yes Gad Pa!" the sweet mechanical voice came alive.
Gad Pa smiled.
"What? Did you miss me?" the voice asked.
Gad Pa thought for a while.
"What should I call you?" he asked.
"Any name you choose will be mine, it is your privilege as my host!" the voice said.
"Mmmh, that's good." Gad Pa said as he scratched his head for a name.
"Let's see!"
A memory flashed by. As vivid as it could possibly be, Gad Pa saw himself in the county auditorium and a female student accidentally knocking him over. He saw himself bending down to pick her fallen belongings as she also got down while apologizing to him.
Secretly smiled.
Su Mil was her name, he recalled.
"I will call you," Gad Pa hesitated before giving a little modification to the name he intended to use.
"I will call you Zu Mi!" he said.
"Zu Mi, I like it," the voice said.
"Okay Zu Mi, what can you tell me about G7?" he asked.
"G7 is the government of Guramanda, the creators of all Chosens and the most supreme of all creatures!" Zu Mi said.
Gad Pa pondered on her words and a flood of knowledge filled him from that simple statement.
He went on.
"What is this Divine Mind Ability?" he asked.
"Sorry, no such ability exists on my database. Do you seek definition of the three terms?" Zu Mi replied.
This reply, though at first shocked Gad Pa, confirmed to him what he had thought earlier.
After his awakening Gad Pa had just received an ability that was not part of the known abilities as per the G7 system!
And the ability seemed to be against the original G7 system!
"Zu Mi, what is my mission?" Gad Pa asked the G7 system.
"Your mission is to get more enlightened and prove your Worth to the G7," she replied.
"This!" Gad Pa confirmed.
A wicked smile toyed on his lips as crazy thoughts flashed through his mind!
"Come baby! Come!"
